Question EGT Gauge w/ stock EGT probe

I'm looking into getting a stewart warner EGT gauge... but I don't know why I need to buy an additional probe.

My aftermarket up pipe has an EGT proble in it (I left it in there) and it's not being used, since the AP supresses the code, so

Why can't I use the stock EGT probe with the aftermarket guage?

For two reasons-
1. The uppipe is the wrong location for an aftermarket EGT probe, to get accurate readings it has to be in the manifold.
2. The OEM probe is a thermistor, aftermarket ones are thermocouples. To use your gauge you must get the correct probe for it, the factory one won't work.

It is best to remove the uppipe probe and plug the hole with a bolt, to prevent the probe from failing and possibly breaking off. It does happen sometimes with catless uppipes.
