Things have changed, sir. hahaha You could be correct. I think there's an increased laziness in their desire to climb up into a vehicle, from my observation. They just want to plop in and go and want the car to look cute. I notice more women in Alaska seem to appreciate the pre-2011 WRX compared to men. We're all about that widebody up here. |

Now that I think about it, the women who said they liked the extra height in a minivan probably would have trouble getting their walkers into anything higher than an Impreza without help. Yes...I am that old!

I appreciate the oneness with the earth in a performance car, but for a daily driver / more rugged vehicle I really appreciate a higher driving position. Something like the CX-5 or even the Crosstrek will give me a more commanding view of the road than my Mustang does... I'd like to see what's going on up ahead :P

I found a picture showing the stance difference between the Crosstrek and the Impreza... It's from the end of last year and from an Australian site, but hopefully it's still comparable. The driving position won't be as high as the CX-5, but maybe it'll be just enough for me to find a happy balance

OK, so 8/15 2:00 PM has come and gone. I haven't seen anything change regarding pre-ordering on any dealership web pages. Does it usually take a while for the news to propagate? It's not like I'm impatient or anything(!)

I plan on buying one before the end of the year, It will be my wifes car, she likes the higher ride height (easier for car seats and groceries and better visibilty)

How is Fuelly going to handle the XV??
Lump it under "Impreza" and mess up all the stats? Or give it its own listing? And I wonder when that will happen. XV on fuelly should be very interesting to watch. |

Pricing is only slightly more than I expected, but not terrible. As with the Impreza, the $2000 Moonroof/Navigation package would be more appealing if it included an upgraded audio system... but I may go for it anyway. I really prefer touchscreen interfaces. This brings the price tag of a loaded Crosstrek awful close to that of a loaded CX-5 Touring AWD, though... ($28,500 MSRP delivered ). Hmm... Now I have even more thinking to do :P

Pricing is too high. $23,990 for a Premium CVT. That's within just a few thousand of the larger, and just about equally fuel efficient, Outback.

$24,382 for a base model manual Outback with steel wheels and wheel covers. No all weather package, no backup camera, or moonroof, or foglights. You said $23,990. That would be an auto that has standard all weather package. |

Talked to my local dealership today. They're taking orders but there are no incentives right now... I'm not going to make the $500 deposit unless they can do something to really entice me as they did with the Impreza launch. It doesn't help that I stopped by the Mazda dealership and reminded myself how much I like the CX-5. The robust interior tech, 40/20/40 seats, and increased cargo space makes for a compelling case.

From what I can tell, the cx5 doesnt have roof rails or towing capability. That was the dealbreaker for me... The folding seats are nice tough. Especially for skiers

Roof rails are a $250 option and the CX-5 has a 2,000lb towing capacity I'm torn between the two :P

Sounds like you've already done a bunch of research. Note the XV Crosstrek has a better power-to-weight ratio than CX-5. Crosstrek's ground clearance is also superior: 8.7" to 8.5". Crosstrek's visibility should be excellent in all directions, too... Impreza has been praised for visibility, and Crosstrek will only improve on it with the additional height. CX-5 will be larger in and out, more like Forester. Fuel economy is a wash (assuming AWD automatics), with Crosstrek 1MPG better on the highway and CX-5 1MPG better in the city. (Crosstrek gets the "best in class" bragging rights, though, because the highest rated MPG is 33 vs 32.) Both should be pretty darn nice cars, eh? Not really a bad pick either way. Subaru should have the resale & reliability advantage, but I'm sure the Mazda will most likely be fine as well. |
