Is it big enough to show new and current models, or just the new vehicles. Legacy/Outback are getting refreshed. XV Crosstrek and BRZ are being introduced. If those are the only vehicles in Subaru's exhibit, it may just be that they are focusing on the news, not showcasing the existing, unchanged products.

There's plenty of room for more if they wanted 'em, and they were all here last year. It's curious for sure.
I'm meeting with Subaru later. Will see if I can find anything out. |

I guess I'm pretty much in the same boat, I've been debating whether or not to get a WRX for the last year or so, but now my current car is showing its age so I'm definitely looking to buy. There most likely wont be a huge difference between 2012/2013 anyways, so I guess it isnt that much of an issue for me. I do wish the WRX was getting re-designed for 2013, though

Let us know what you find out about the 2014 WRX. We already know the 2013 is unchanged. |

on another side note, would it be possible that Subaru could introduce a 2.0L engine into the 2013 WRX? I would like it if the JDM WRX just came to the US as a 2013 model, but we all know thats probably not going to happen. Last edited by gatesan3; 04-04-2012 at 05:46 PM. |

Their press conference is at 10:00 today. Not expecting much of substance since they already have the XV out there on display.

.....Thanks for the update, I guess we'll be waiting a while longer for information on this but I think as the year progresses we'll begin to hear more information begin to trickle out. Subaru is starting to become as tight lipped as Nissan was with the GTR. |

Okay, had a nice chat with a few execs. First, let me say these dudes love Subarus, which was great to see. One of them, who will remain unnamed, told me that they under-rate the HP on the WRX and that the STI is amazing with chip on a mild tune
Anywho, the WRX and STI weren't mentioned in the presentation at 10. They talked sales, new tech in the Legacy (EyeSight), CrossTrek, etc. That's it. One exec said the new WRX is "top secret" and that they can't talk about it, but to expect it in 2014. Couldn't get clarity on whether that's 2014MY or actually the year 2014. Another wouldn't confirm that it's coming next year, but neither did they say it wouldn't... That other individual indicated the new WRX will have a "new" turbo DI motor based on the BRZ, which is interesting. He quoted me 270hp for the WRX, but wouldn't tell me what the STI will be throwing down. You can do the math based on the current cars but I'd hope they'll increase the delta between the two... The current 2012 WRX will be continued but they wouldn't say for how long. I asked if there'll be a special STI to close off production and he said something to the effect of "anything's possible." I couldn't tell if he was being coy but they were quick to point out that WRX and STI sales are actually up over the past year, so honestly they don't have a lot of need to do so. So, not a lot of concrete info to help me decide whether to pull the trigger now or wait. I was told to just buy a new one now then upgrade in a few years, which isn't exactly how I operate (as you can see by the age of my current WRX). But, hopefully it helps swing one of you one way or the other... -tim |

Thanks for the information Tim...I figured they would be tight lipped.
For anyone who has a problem waiting and need something reasonable for a Subaru I buy an Impreza. Thats the main reason why I settled on a 2011. |

Off Topic - My biggest concern is how low tech the interior features are, and I have kinda found some aftermarket solutions. "Advanced Keys" is making a push to start button that is designed like an OEM Lexus IS300 one. I am also thinking about dynamatting the doors and floor, and then replacing the Head Unit with a Pioneer or something. Probably $2500 in all, but it'll be awesome. http://www.advancedkeys.com/Prod_AK104B.html |

Man, the lack of keyless ignition on the WRX is actually a bit of a stumbling block for me. (I know, that sounds lame but it's just like keyless door locks. Once you get used to not taking the keys out of your pocket it suddenly becomes a big chore.)
This looks really tempting... Thanks for the link! |

With the research I have done, I've figured out you have to be careful with which one to pick. There was one website called auto-innovatio.com that offers one, but you have to cut a key and leave it in the ignition in the acc position. This seems quite counter-productive for the safety features of it.
I asked someone who already has the advanced keys one installed in their car and they said that they took the lock cylinder/mechanism completely out of their car, so the only way to start their car is by the push button. This wouldn't bother me, and it would be better than leaving a key in the ignition. Its also nice to see someone else is stumbling on whether to purchase a WRX based upon keyless access also! Some say its just a key, but it would be so much more convenient to have it. |

Really guys? Is it that hard to put a key in the ignition and turn it? Come on.
You are willing to drive a MANUAL car, but the act of turning a key is too much? shame... |

And it's more than just ignition. You don't even need to touch the key fob. Just walk up, touch the door handle, car unlocks, sit in, start the engine and you're done. It's very nice. |

Exactly what I was thinking. People bitching about push button start...lol. The WRX is performance first then convenience.

Oh it's not a dealbreaker, but it feels like a step back in time just like sticking a key in a lock in the door of a car does now.
