VF-22,good idea?Bad idea?
I currently have a TD-04L unique pipes a rallispec intercooler,Vortech, map clamp, and J&S.I recently acquired a VF-22 for a good price,I plan on upping the management soon to either Wolf or link,my question is if I continue to run 5psi on this setup will it still be safe for now? I have not had any detonation to date and am running a bit rich (WRX pump and RRFPR) I think the 22 will be a bit more efficient on the car,Just wanted other input.
Thanks, Ben,

How do the compressor maps and flow rates compare? Or is that what you are asking?

We got 202WHP out of a VF22 at 5.8 psi (approx 270 flywheel), so it seems to do pretty darn well at low boost. When i switched from a RHB52 (VF11) to the VF22, it felt like 5 psi on the VF22 was just like 7-8 psi on the smaller VF11. It was great.
I run the VF22 as high as 14 psi which seems to be about 270whp on race gas based on qtr mile speeds and keeping up with a Z-06 at 6000 feet and with the Z-06 at 300whp up here they have the same wt to hp ratio as my car. The VF22 has been known to make as much as 275whp on pump gas at sea-level, and one person reports 300whp on race gas out of one. Anyway, the VF22 is not at it's best efficiency at only 5-6 psi, and it really starts to sing at 10-14 psi and above (320-360hp at the fly max) |

i was thinking about getting a turbo upgrade eventually, righ tnow i got a ej20 in my classic impreza. if i had the vf-22 what kind of upgrades would i have to get? upgraded fuel system, what kind of IC?? would the STi be enough? or should i go larger?? how much power can be had with the 22?? (to the wheels) is there much lag? is it a good turbo for daily driving and road cursing?

www.carmodifications.com. Andrew runs the place. He is a good guy.
As far as the VF-22, I say go for it. The only thing I would be weary of is not knowing the wastegate spring pressure on a turbo made for the high boosting WRX. I would imagine that its internal wastegate opens somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 psi. This may be more than you want and I have NEVER found (or anyone else that I know for that matter) where to get new internal wastegate springs. Just to let you know, with engine management and a good tune you are safe up to around 10-12 psi on the WRX turb on the RS. I am running the RHB5 on my with a Link at 10 psi and I make 240 HP at the crank and 302 crank HP (wheel= 170 and 226). So, don't be afraid to take the TD04 a bit further. Graham |

Ben, your running a WRX turbo right?
If so, your in luck. Wait, what size injectors are you running? I have a professionally tuned map for 10 psi with a TD04 or the very similar in size RHB5 (I'm running the RHB5). It cost me quite a bit of money, but it is an awesome map for the Link. Although, if your not running 440's you may run into some problems. A fuel pressure of around 50 psi would help to. Anyway, I can send it to you, just need an email address. Graham |

Oh, forgot you were putting in the VF-22. My map will not be what you are looking for then.
I'll send it anyway. Graham |
