Default Lambo to unveil ‘super sports car’

Quote:
Lamborghini has confirmed it will unveil a road-going ‘super sports car’ at the Frankfurt motor show in September – and it is expected to be a race-inspired version of the Lamborghini Gallardo.
Lamborghini’s cryptic Frankfurt announcement suggested that its show car would be red, and last weekend it gave the strongest hint yet that it would unveil a road-going, race-inspired version of the Gallardo when it painted its factory car in the one-make Super Trofeo race series the same colour.

The new car is expected to be the most hardcore road-going variant of the car to date. It will be sold in strictly limited numbers and will be promoted as being produced as part of a celebration of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the unification of Italy.
Several limited edition Gallardo’s have already been launched previously, including the LP 550-2 Balboni, LP 570-4 Superleggera, LP 570-4 Spyder Performante and Bicolore edition.
Although no date has been announced for the launch of the Gallardo’s replacement, Lamborghini is strongly tipped to give the car the Cabrera name.

Ah...These guys can just take a 4-5 year break, or do something like make affordable sport cars under $50k to try to sell more. Their cars are already ahead of others and in this kind of economy, not alot of people are going to buy them anyway.Maybe just collectors.

3 points:
  • Economy doesnt impact the super rich who can afford these cars new.
  • $50k - thats cheaper than a loaded 335i.... that screams dilution of the brand. $50k isnt a lot of money these days. even a fully loaded sienna is pushing that.
  • lambo doesnt survive on volume. they never needed a lot of buyers and they never will.

Lamborghini is not the brand to sell anything less than 100-150K. That is what VW and Audi are for.

But that also means that most people will never have access to one. That is fine... whatever.

But I wish Mazda, or someone in the more everyday part of the market would sell a mid-engined sports car. Toyota is evidently not going to do a new MR2 correctly, and Pontiac is gone, permanently. Alfa is delaying their US market re-introduction for years, so the 4C is probably off the table... and Lotus is in transition without the Toyota 2ZZ engine, and trying to re-vamp their whole line.

I wish the next RX-_ sports car were mid-engined and rotary powered. Something drastically different than the bigger-than-necessary, but smaller than truly practical RX8. A 5-door sedan (think mini-Rapide) would be welcome, regardless of engine choice, and a mid-engined 2-seat sports car would be a natural for a rev-loving compact racy rotary engine.

I would even appreciate an electric assist hybrid with an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM of battery weight on board. A turbocharged, or turbo-compounded rotary engine with an electric drive torque boost would make a very nice sports car engine.

Lambo may not be the brand to build an interesting mid-engined sports car under the average household income level, but I wish SOMEONE would.

I can't blame Lambo. The rich put their money where the mouth is. The general car "enthusiast" demands 400whp car with room for modding and abuse, last 150k miles with minimum up-keep, gets 30mpg in the city, looks like a Lambo with the practicality of a station wagon. And cost "under 30k" !!

1) You never know unless you try. From what I've seen, the economy does make people think twice before forking over money these days no matter how rich or poor you are. And then theres other competitors.

2)$50k is just a hypothetical number. They can price the cars competitively. In this case, brand dilution wouldnt matter.

3)This is just a matter of time. They only survive thanks to VW.

I only brought these points up because I saw what Porsche was doing and thought it would be interesting if Lambo did the samething.

1) what have you seen? Billionaires are still buying basketball teams, the middle east still has oil, Asia's economy has a lot of wealth... I am sure Lambo did a cost benifit analysis on this... and I am guessing the answer was "we will make money"

2) Brand dilution would matter

3) Proof?
