Default i read the faq's and need some advice

First of all I have an '07 STi and am looking for a suspension upgrade for it. It is pretty much just a street car. I love to carve up the back roads and this car does a pretty good job of that. I also may autocross once or twice a year just for fun...not really competitive.

That being said...Is it worth it for me to get coilovers? I don't want to spend a load of cash and want a good bang for my buck. I was thinking maybe not so I started looking at some springs. I read the faq's and still have some doubts about which way I should go. I have looked at RCE yellow, crucial, tanabe GF, tein s-tech (j/k). I read that STi's are very sensitive to lowering springs so was wondering which spring would eliminate at least a bit of wheel gap and have a spring rate that will compliment my stock shocks.

I don't want to blow my stock shocks but I have read many places that the stock shocks start clunking and making funny noises after a while. This is one reason why I am thinking coilovers may be more cost effective in the long run, however, there must me other shocks available on the market. So my second question is depending on what spring you are suggesting, can you also recommend an aftermarket shock that will work with the new spring you are suggesting.

So the questions are for what I am using the car for...coilovers or springs, and secondly, if I go springs what shocks would be options after my stockers blow? Thanks in advance.

ASK ABOUT NEW RCE
SWAY BARS FOR STI

You are close enough we canprob set up something so you can ride in or drive many options. We are about 55 fast minutes away.

Blacks would work well, but so would Swift R spec. Both lower about the same and offer a super close spring rate.

Mated to stock will work fine, but dont ever ride in a car with Ohlins, you will want them right away. Dont get me wrong , stock can work well, but one has to remember that stock has its limitations. However, many who do all the toppings ( RCE blacks, sways, Anti lift kit, good alignment and group-n top m ounts) are fast with that set up. This all comes down to what you want to do inthe long run AND where are you as a driver.............

let us know if you need some help. I am up at CBRD sometimes and could meet up with you.

Thanks...I am at CBRD all the time LOL. I will let you know. How would the yellows work for my setup? Too low? I am looking at just springs right now and add parts as I need them so I am looking for something that will work with stock struts and upgrade later when they blow. Thanks!

Did you see this one yet? You can probably grease em if they do that.

I wouldn't do the coilover thing based on what you have said. But RCE won't steer ya wrong.

either spring is perfect for you.. you'll be fine with stock struts.. or you can keep them when you replace struts down the road...

I'd also get a second set of camber bolts.. for the front.. dial in max neg camber up-front (around 1.2) from -.8.. (yeah that little bit makes a difference)

those alone will make you much happier..

if you want to invest some more, consider a set of white-line Sway-bars.. 27 front/24 rear and endlinks..

def not required.. but IMHO.. the cars should have come this way from the factory (or maybe 24/24 from the factory, although the 27 really helps keep the camber loss at a minimum)

good luck!

^^^I am a do it yourselfer but have never done camber bolts. How do these things work and are they easy to install? Will it make the alignment easier. I have never done an alignment...i usually take it somewhere for that. Also, again, any input on the RCE yellows?

awesome.. it is great to do stuff yourself.. i do my work myself..

always have.. all but alignments.. actually...

camber bolts.. install just like regular strut bolts... only they have a cam to them.. so you can change the angle between the hub and the strut.. so you get more camber.

the yellows.. are a bit lower.. and have a higher rear spring rate.. reletive to the front... so the car should rotate easier.. but for a car that is 99% a daily driver.. these really aren't needed..

RCE Blacks, and Camber bolts.. both available in stock (I just checked) from TiC

find a good shop to do you alignments.. make sure to tell them.. when you call.. that you want a performance alignment.. some shops will throw you somewhere in factory spec.

I pay $54.00 for my alignments.. done by a friend who is a master tech at a local dealer.. i help him.. just to get it right on..

down to the 10th of a MM..

I talked to Myles at RCE and think I will be going with the RCE yellows on my daily driver. Wish me luck on the install...my wrx took me and a buddy 7 hours...hopefully shorter now that we have experience LOL.

I am actually looking into getting some springs for my 04 WRX. I was looking at getting the Eibach 1.0 Rear and 1.3 Front. But i am not sure if i need new cambers or not. Some help would be cool.

it's not too low but it's pushing it. s-techs drop our cars close to 1.5" and that's far too low for our suspension geometry. if you want to better understand why, do a search on the tein springs and why they're bad.
