Cool Do up the car or Buy a fast boat?

Car would need quite a bit and thats a good thing (2001 L), I would live to work on it. But I know I would always want to fool around with it once in a while with style and power at hand.
I'm not a street racer, but sometimes the 0-60 on a 45 mph street would be to much to resist with like 300 whp for me.

Pos of geting a fast Ocean boat

1. once out of harbor no speed limit (right?) CA now has law that says if your caught street racing you go to jail like 30 days automaticly and will probably loose your car. But moving to RI soon. But pretty sure the law will travel.

2. Insurance is very cheap for speed boats (right?) or do you even need it?

3. Can explore cool places off shore and visit islands and stuff

4. no emissions or limit on mods on a speed boat (right)

Cons

1. will only be fun during summer and half the fall and spring

2. if you break down or get into accident it's a much bigger deal

3. will use much more gas to go fast, pay for dock space, need truck to pull it around

not an expert on this so feel free to comment. Would love to have both.

I used to like the idea of having a boat, but my father, being the practical man he is, always tells me there are better ways to spend money. One day he said something along the lines of "If you want to see what it feels like to own a boat, stand in the shower and tear up a stack of $50 bills."

I still want a boat, but I think that $50 bills in the shower thing is hillarious. Not new, but hillarious none the less!

The two happiest days in a boater's life are: The day you buy the boat, and the day you sell it.

That being said, I love being out on the water every weekend. Boater's insurance is pretty cheap (I pay like $300/year for full coverage on a $5000.00 jetski). It's just great to get out on the ocean, and get away from all the idiots on land. It's almost like going into your own world.

Boats don't depreciate as quickly as cars, and you can get a nice deal on a used boat b/c there aren't many moving parts. A 10 year old boat can be perfectly fine, just check out the hull and the motor. Also be sure that if it was run in saltwater that the motor was flushed regularly.

I have an affinity toward Wellcraft's speed boats, as well as Donzi. Also be sure to factor in marina costs, or if you plan to trailer it every weekend. I was a 2nd generation commercial fisherman, and I'm from an island. I've been on the water all my life, PM me if you have any boating questions and I'll be glad to help.

ya , the cost part is a big downside but the freedom part is the upside, and then bad weather is the other downside (where a done up car would be fun).

Depends, I'll take a rainy day on a boat to a sunny day on land anytime. Especially if you have a cabin/cutty. Girls love to have dinner on a boat, too. Don't forget about fishing!

No speed limits on the open ocean, but keep in mind that 80mph on a boat is pretty damn fast. I go 60 on a jetski, and that's fun. Also, boats suck down fuel like crazy.

I'm a sailboat racer so the pricing is a little different, but just to give you an idea...

1. Vehicle with enough torque and braking power
2. Trailer
3. Hitch
4. Slip
5. Boa/trailer Insurance
6. Boat itself
7. Motor possibly seperate
8. Maintenance = bling bling
9. oil/fuel
10. You'd have to learn how to maintenance an engine on the water
11. Pulling the boat out during the winter for hull work
12. Booze money

edit: I wish I was on the ocean instead of a river

ya 40 mph on a lake seems thrilling. it just seems driving is so restricted now and getting more so every year thanks to 2f2f tards with fart mufflers and no driving skills. I know it makes sence to bring it to a track but that seems loke even more restricted driving than the street. ? it's hard to explain I've been driving for 8+ yrs and only got in trouble my first 2 driving. I'm safe but want to have fun in my car (reasonably). I'll have to borrow someone's car and go to the track to see what it's like to drive on the confines of a track.

Oh, I assumed you would be taking it out on the open water. Lakes suck.

You're a smart man, my friend. Here's three more questions to think about:

How many people do you plan on taking out regularly?
What do you plan on doing with it? ie fish, ski, cruise, sleep
Do you plan on being a pirate?

My family has a 48' sea ray......that is a pig.

They say the best days of a boaters life is the day he buys the boat and day he sells the boat.

but who wouldn't want a fast off shore boat, it's the ultamate big boy toy

btw the car or boat wouldn't be for at least 2 yrs to when I have cash to spend, so a used 2006 wrx 2.5t engine could be in the picture for the car

after looking at boat prices on Ebay I sticking with my 2001 Subaru project car. Boats are way way too much money if you want a nice ocean craft.

sure boats cost money...

do the math though...

25+ft bayliner (we're talkin cheapo boat) vs average highly modded impreza...

which one is going to lend itself more to scantily clad ladies?

yeah... that's what i thought.

ghetto bayliner ftw.
