When owning a Subaru, I learned a long time ago it helps to have a backup car. Like I used to have my Jeep Grand Cherokee as a backup.

Yeah that is why you can't drive anywhere right now

But in all seriousness, anytime you start modifying a car you should have a backup available. You reach the crossover point between street car and unreliable race car pretty quick.

The key to "STI" and "Reliable" is making sure it's tuned right. Someone should have told the onionneck that owned my previous '04 that.

And one of the main issues with that is finding a tuner who knows what they are doing with Subarus, which is rare. Any idiot can tune an Evo and add more boost, timing, and fuel. I talked to a tuner in Chicago who has tuned some 700whp evos and went to the AEM tuner school. He won't touch Subarus because they are too ornery.

Why not? An unmodified STI is dead reliable if used in a reasonable manner. There is no reason one won't do 200,000 miles with proper maintance. Hell, there are a bunch of 200,000 mile WRXs running around with no issue. What about a stock STI makes it any less reliable? The more robust transmission? The beefier drivetrain? You need to take a minute and drive a truley unreliable car.

And I'm talking stock. It's not Subaru's fault when you start to use the car in a manner it was not designed for.

i see what you are saying, but I'm not only taking about reliable engine wise, since i've had my car i had misfires at idle, on a stock car(except the cbe), and the p/s pump **** out on me, I'm not saying that they are the least reliable cars, but for anything performance oriented, you are gonna lose some reliability, I'm not complaining about my car, i love it even when it pisses me off, but from what i've seen, they arnt a car i would describe as reliable compared to other cars of the same price range and performance
