Any Thoughts/Advice on Autocrossing a 2010 Impreza 2.5 Hatch
I autocross a miata regularly, and am looking into buying my brother’s Impreza to possibly autocross as well. I would keep it in Street Category (GS) and not touch the engine. How do these cars hold up? Any issues I should be made aware of?

Unfortunately, they are outclassed in GS and just about anywhere else. They can still be fun to drive if you aren't trying to win a class though.

Yeah I figured. I know the mk7 GTIs and the FoSTs pretty much run the class. I'm fine with just having fun with it. Just wanted to make sure there aren't any known issues with the suspension or engine or anything...

Make sure you put a rear sway bar on. 19 mm is the same as on the front and is a good match. Run tire pressure higher in the back to get rotation.
Go out, have fun, and learn to drive. Then you can make an educated decision on how your would like to pursue autocross. |

I had an 08 WRX with 09+ suspension and swaybars, and I have a MK7 GTI now. I liked the handling of the WRX much better, actually. It just does what it's supposed to and works well for autocross, in my opinion.
I'm guessing the 2.5i has either the same spring rates as the 08 WRX or is even softer; in either case if you find the car just has too much body roll to be fun you might slap some 09+ suspension on and have a much more fun car to drive. That would put you in a Street Touring class of course. |
