Okay so its been a LONG day of driving, filling out paperwork and rebate forms, a trip to the bank, and custom work orders, BUT, as of 7:07 PM EST, my entire household is H&K equipped. Only oddball is my stub nose .38 special S&W.

All four guns will be getting trigger jobs and mine will be getting custom finishes. Just to keep the suspense, you guys have to wait 4 weeks to see em :-P

Clearly a bit bulky. http://i.imgur.com/2oZ0Nr2h.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/OXaS3Loh.jpg

See? Much easier to wrap small hands around.http://i.imgur.com/t3amRFOh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/R921KnVh.jpg

Side-by-side makes it very clear why the FN works a bit better for me.http://imgur.com/FhJRLALh.jpg

Oh, and just for a totally crazy comparison - anyone for a crew-served handgun? http://imgur.com/CqSC9Beh.jpg

For anyone in the area considering buying a Five-seveN who wants to try one first, you're welcome to come shoot mine as long as you bring your own ammo...much like my WRX, she's not cheap to feed. I'm always happy to share with other enthusiasts so long as they're responsible folks.
Where are you located? I'd love to shoot the Five seven! not sure where to get the ammo from though.

Started the paperwork on my Expert this afternoon. Beauty. Trigger's pretty damn good too.

$800 back in your pocket feels good, doesn't it? Just $400 for me, but I'll just that on Jet Funnel mags or something.

Hellz yah man. I would have spent 4500-5000 if it werent for the rebates (the HK45CT is getting a acid etch and a carburized cobalt finish and trigger job - roughly a 1200 dollar job- but since i spent so much cash they chopped it in half)

What exactly is that supposed to look like? I have never heard of "carburized cobalt", but this thread is now the 4th hit for that google search after links about case hardening.

Like cobalt blue with streaks of soot (black) in it.
If you are familiar with oxy-acetylene torch terminology a carburizing flame is one with little oxygen and the flame emits "soot"

Sounds unnecessary. I'd have just installed a Match Trigger kit, they're ~$100-150 and significantly improve the trigger, though you'd need an internal overtravel stop ($$ gunsmithing) or tap the trigger for the stop screw yourself.

The Match trigger on my Expert, from what I could tell dry-firing at the store, is sweet. I need to order a few Match components for my LEM HK45T to convert it to Match/LEM hybrid.

Kingstowne area of Alexandria. I'm a member of Sharpshooters, although frankly they're a little (okay, a lot) uptight and I'd really like to find a new range. I'm mostly a member there because it's close to home. I've heard rave reviews of Silver Eagle Group, but they're $$$$$ and pretty far from me. I really wish there were more simple outdoor ranges around here where you could just shoot without anyone bothering you, but no such luck in such a populated area.

Gander Mountain usually has the best prices on 5.7x28, but Sharpshooters actually has decent prices on it as well. I won't pay for the FN-branded stuff, I put American Eagle through it at around $0.49-0.51/round.

I haven't been to sharpshooters in a long time. I prefer the NRA HQ range, but the drive and high chance of a wait mean that I don't shoot very often. Blue Ridge in Chantilly is not bad and not as far at SEG.

I want to try this range that just opened near Manassas.: http://www.eliteshootingsports.com/

For outdoor you have to drive way out to Clark Bros, join Isaac Walton or a private range.

Its not going to be my carry gun. It is unnecessary, but i like to be different. Black, silver or two tone is old dull and played out.

And the acid etch and finish is $$$ gunsmithing. You can easily ruin a slide or other components if you dont know what youre doing

NRA HQ Friday and Saturday nights is sublime. No wait, usually not busy enough to get kicked off after an hour.

Hence why I'd skip all of that, but a gun can be a deeply personal object. Thought you were specifically looking for a new a carry gun though?

I'll try that, thanks

I love playing with the timed targets at NRA HQ. Also need to try out the new trigger in my Glock. Ghost Evo Elite 3.5# connector with a NY green spring.

Get a match trigger for the USP! They're fun to install!

Let me know if you go. I may head down tomorrow night after work; need to see if my 1911 is being a wimp or if that box of ammo was wimpy. Then you can show me how the timed targets work for presentation and I can in turn show you how much I suck!

It won't be tomorrow. I've got an anniversary dinner with the gf.

Ask at the desk, I think they have instruction sheets. It will basically lets you set the amount of time you see the target (face vs edge), number of repetitions, and the delay between cycles. NRA allows you to draw from the holster.

Blue Ridge is actually right near work for me, I've been meaning to give them a try. Sharpshooter's was appealing just due to proximity but I definitely don't plan to renew my membership there.

I have heard really good things about Izaak Walton.

BlueRidge has been good to me, except when I dumped an AR mag downrange fairly quickly, was accused of "automatic fire" and told to slow it down... Which is weird, considering they rent full auto rifles and such... They are generally dead on certain nights of the week... call them and ask which.

Isaak Walton League... Been there once, never again. Did not enjoy.

If anyone in the Montgomery County or surrounding area has a MD HQL (or has an out of state residency/FFL) and wants a HK USP9 SD ("Tactical"), Engage Armament just lowered their prices to $920 on their remaining stock of them. HK will even give you $200 back with the rebate, so figure just over $700 for 9mm suppressor host.

Took the wife out with me yesterday to fire the Shield for her first time. She was kind of Meh. Then again she is not a gun nut and she couldn't tell me if she liked the Glock 19 or Shield 9 better.

Me putting a few rounds downrange with my Glock 19 about 20 feet away.

Definitely need more practice

Finished another Glock 19 to be my team gun for precision rifle comps.

This was for Team Hawk Hill Custom but I just recently switched to Team Accuracy International. The hawk is neat so I will keep it.

This is my competiton rifle, an Accuracy International AX rifle in 6mmx47 Lapua with Schmidt & Bender PMII 5-25x56mm scope. Over 10k rounds on the action and I guess about 8 different barrels after 2 years and runs like a swiss watch. I have hit targets out to 1300 yards with the rifle setup in .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor and 6x47 L

Show me the ways you holster your sidearm while in car? I need to figure out how to make my spare kydex work in the car.

Where do you guys mount yours?
