I haven't done it in my car, but I've seen guys on LotusTalk mount theirs to the console to one side of the shifter. How well that works probably depends a fair amount on how much space you have to work with.

If I am not CCing my pistol, I have a Fobus paddle style holster for my G30SF and that snaps into the drivers door pocket and secures it pretty good.

I tried out Elite Shooting Sports in Manassas this past weekend. Fantastics range, very well ventilated, clean, and spacious. Staff is really nice. The drive out there sucks, but the gf approves so that is all that matters. Only shot pistol on the 25 yd range, but they also have 100 yd rifle range.

I usually take mine out while driving, so was looking for best place to hold until I get where I'm going - so let me ask you this - the paddle holster fits in or actually is made to snap in? I have a 30SF as well, so this is the route I'm going to go.....haven't tried to put it in the pocket yet. Was assuming most have a center console method.

I was going to ask if anyone here had shot there yet, my better half mentioned this morning that we should give it a try. Downrange cameras? Yes please! It'll be really nice to have 100 yard distance, most places here the best you'll find is 50. Conveniently I just got a new .22 for plinking so I'll take it there for a maiden voyage.

I have a legacy so I am not sure how your door pocket is designed. Mine fits in it and I just hook it on the door pocket. You can also put it between the center console and passenger seat too(if you do not have a passenger) while driving.

Elite is out of the way for me, but a guy I shoot with at NRA has been and said it was awesome, but it was before they were 100% setup so it should be even better now. It'd actually be the best place for me to try and zero the SCAR at 75yds. Not that I can even get solid groups at 25yds.

They seem to want people to think it is Manassas given the address that pops up on Google and Facebook.

It's at the ass end of Manassas allll the way almost by Gainesville. Nice facility. Not really a 'pro' shop though - and no guns.

Because Palmetto is ****ing me on shipping ammo and I'd like to actually get said ammo so if they do end up ****ing me, I'd like to order it to VA and pick it up locally.

What are you picking up? I've been pretty happy with Gander Mountain and Brownell's in the past. If you decide to go the route of shipping to VA, let me know.

Case of standard M80 ball 7.62 NATO. They wouldn't play ball with shipping to my FFL, so **** 'em. Bought it elsewhere.

I'm looking to buy my first pistol. Any recommendations on local shops with indoor ranges that let you rent firearms to try them out?

A buddy recommended Silver Eagle Group in Ashburn and I found a place more local to me, Elite Shooting Sports in Manassas.

Has anyone been to Elite Shooting?

ESS is a pretty solid range. You'll have to pay $10 for your card in addition to the fee for the lane, but it's a REALLY nice facility. SEG has the situation house, but it doesn't sound like that's something you need right now.

However, ESS does not do rentals. Check and see if Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly offers rentals.

Thanks. ESS' site does say that rentals are "coming soon" but I emailed them today and they still do not do them and have no idea if they will.

Blue Ridge does do rentals, at least according to their website.

BRA has lots of different firearm rentals to choose from. They are your best bet when it comes to trying different guns.

Blue Ridge is okay if you need to rent.

Elite is much better if you want to shoot.

Sharp Shooter's in Lorton is pretty dumpy and prices are high. They do have a range and rentals. Just another option if you are down that way.

For first gun buying I would go to The Gun Dude. Orders through him have a 90 day return policy even on fired guns. Nothing much in stock except consignments, but gun shows are better for touching and holding things.

VA Arms in Manassas would be my #2 store. Good stock, decent service, and fair prices too.
