Default New: Mach V EJ Header Heat Shield 2008+ STI

This product came about because over the years we have seen a number of 2008+ STI cars equipped with aftermarket headers, with heat damage on the right (passenger) side of the engine where the passenger-side AVCS solenoid and cam sensor wiring is. The factory manifold is heavily heat shielded, but aftermarket headers are not, and a the design and layout of the EJ means the collector of the header comes pretty close the lower right corner of the engine. There IS a small factory-installed plastic heat shield, but it can't stand up to the heat from a tubular header, and it can melt or burn.

Somewhere I have photos of a customer car that came in with a minor engine fire that started when melted insulation dripped onto the header.

Of course, header wrap goes a long way towards preventing this, but it has its own issues, including high labor cost, and it doesn't last forever and has to be re-wrapped periodically.

So we designed a stainless steel shield that mounts like the stock one (one bolt and a clip), but is larger and much more heat-resistant. It installs easily in the same way the stock part does, and is secured by the same factory bolt.

It should fit any turbo EJ motor. In terms of header clearance, it will probably fit any aftermarket header, but we know for sure it fits with the Prosport unequal-length header.

We'd recommend it for any 2008+ STI with an un-shielded aftermarket header, and especially for any car that's going to see road race or other long-duration, high-load use.

Find the Mach V EJ Header Heat Shield HERE.

Thanks,

Dan
