cause when i bought my bugeye in 01 as a 02, i was told NO STi this and that. No Evo coming bla bla.... So i know now to wait a year or two before i buy a new platform car. lol
This car wont see a turbo....It will see a supercharger. They dont want to screw with the throttle response. http://www.leftlanenews.com/toyota-e...nce-gt-86.html

BRZ pricing announced + first test drive review
Some news for those following the BRZ:
Pricing @ $24k (base trim) and $27k (premium trim) - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2579 First BRZ test drive review - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2596 Pricing seems very positive. Anything which starts under $25k is a great price IMO. Review also seems positive. Only hesitation seems to be about the electric power steering. But steering is a bit subjective afterall. |

To mimic the words of the great George Carlin "Toyota has once again contributed to the pussification of the Japanese automobile, with its conservative and bland designs" I can already see Clarkson ripping it a new ass in Top Gear Season 18 Toyota is following the same business principles GM started in the mid 70's until its BK status in 2009, the production of cheap disposable vehicles with no heart or value AKA: The Chinese method of consumer products. (Typhoon, Cyclone, Grand National, Camaro SS, Impala SS, C5, C6, CTS-V, G8, GTO, Full Size SUV's and Trucks excluded) The only difference is unlike GM, Toyota builds efficient and reliable engines for the entire lineup. |

Check out the link: http://www.motoiq.com/magazine_artic...86fr-sbrz.aspx Subaru has already developed a 1.6L turbo version of the engine that looks exactly the same as the 2.0L engine from what I can tell. Why would they develop a supercharged version when they already have everything to go turbo? My guess, STI version will be turbo with bigger brakes, retuned suspension, standard STI tweaks. I'm guessing ~2850lbs, 300hp, RWD. There's nothing in the market short of a Porsche Cayman to compete. It'd be like a modern day Nissan Silvia. |

It does look pretty good. I just wish they could have put it on a little bit more of a diet. A Miata-sized car should weigh around 2500 lbs, not 2800. 200 hp is nice, but imagine how much quicker it would have been if they had reduced the weight by 10% and kept the same motor.
I'm curious what this new motor is going to feel like, as well. It's going to be WAY different than the current 2.5L N/A motor that powers a lot of their lineup. I've seen specs around other places on the internet that it's going to make peak torque of 150 ft-lb at 6600 RPM and peak hp of 197 hp at 7000 RPM. That sounds more like a Honda power curve than the torquey, but not particularly high-revving Subaru motors we're used to. |

Definitely want, but I'm not going to jump on it like most fanboys. I'll wait for the 2nd gen BRZ.

All I see is : blah blah blah ...... boxer featuring Toyota's direct-injection system .......blah blah blah
When are they bringing that to the rest of the lineup? |

Five different BRZ first drive reviews out in one day. ALL positive (some extremely).
BRZ review compilations - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2498 But the most positive one I've seen on any of these cars is the EVO review, which completely gushed about the Toyota 86 - http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc...ota_gt_86.html And one of the BRZ reviews called the steering better than anything out there, short of a Lotus. I'm even more psyched for the BRZ after the initial impressions. |

Being a former 240SX owner this is pretty cool news to me, however I would hold out for a turbo model because 200HP even in a 2600lb car gets old pretty quickly, especially if the handling is there already.
At that weight the car should be around the 300HP, in order to go from being a neat little car to awesome machine. |

For a2012 low-production niche car, I expected a little more. But it's alright I guess. Part of selling a sports car with unimpressive horsepower numbers is going to put a large dependency on the cosmetics/looks.. and lookwise it's not that great for a sports car. Sports car in this day and age need to look "sexy" .. Can't wait to see the track numbers... if it's AMAZING then maybe it can grab attention from hardcore handling enthusiasts rather than the typical sports-car fanbase which desire "sexy and powerful" - This is exactly why the Scion FRS at the LA Auto show gained a lot more buzz and attention from the masses over the Subaru BRZ STI concept, even though essentially the BRZ STI is in theory the better performing car between the two.
This is going to be a fun task for the marketing manager(s) over at Subaru Last edited by vinxH; 12-03-2011 at 04:57 PM. |

I doubt it will be a 2.5. This new 2.0 is an FA motor, which will be replacing the old FB. Which could be a great thing, to see the STi lose the 2.5, and gain the high-revving 2.0 that has been offered in the JDM STi's. The 2.0 is a much smoother motor and in the reviews Subaru said that the BRZ does not have the room for turbo-charging. But looking at the engine bay shots, not much ingenuity would be needed to accomplish that goal. Looks like I'll be keeping my bugeye or getting a hawkeye in the mean time until they release the second model year.
And from every review, MotorTrend, Top Gear, etc. they are praising the hell out of this car, and how it drives. |

They are completely different cars... why would you consider switching if you were shopping for a four (five) door AWD turbo car?!

I was more looking for a new Subaru performance platform. I don't really need AWD in NC, and 4 doors is not a must. The BRZ is more of a "sports car" rather than a rally ready car, and more capable in the handling department. I'll most likely pick up a hawkeye to replace my bugeye, since I don't want to source a 6 speed, Brembos, etc. And wait a few years to pick up a BRZ. I am really excited to see how Subaru handles the STi version of the BRZ and what the aftermarket can do with the platform.
