Default 07 sti rear diff noise

I have a rear loud howling noise coming from the rear of the car. Wheel bearings have been ruled out. Took it to a local shop and they said that the noise was coming from at the pinion shaft right before the drive shaft connects to it. Also the abs light comes on around 40-50mph and they said the rear diff could be contributing to that. They told me that they recommend replacing the rear diff with a new one. Not sure if it's a money grab or if there is something else I can fix?

Miles? How do you treat the car? Highway commuter, weekend daily driver, track car? Have you owned the car the entire life of it?

An 07 STi with 200k miles that has been launched and DCCD has been used incorrectly will have much worse drive-line wear compared to a garage kept STi with 60k miles.

More info.

I've owned the car for almost 4 years. Has right around 140k miles. It's my daily summer car. I don't drive it in the winter. Launched it a couple of times. Never use the dccd. No highway commutes and never seen the track in my ownership
