Default Fast forward on 6.2 head unit

I have a 2016 Impreza with the base 6.2 inch head unit. I very frequently listen to old radio programs that I store as .mp3 files on a USB stick connected to the USB port inside the center console.

Very often I want to pause a story and switch to a different one for a while, or switch to playing music off of other .mp3 files, and then resume my original story later.

The head unit does not keep any kind of 'bookmark' for a .mp3 file once you have stopped playing it and moved to a different file. This means that when I want to resume my story, I have to 'fast forward' from the beginning.

The 'fast forward' mode is pathetic - something like 5x real speed and it never gets faster no matter how long you hold the button down. So skipping ahead 10 minutes takes MINUTES of sitting there holding the button down waiting to get back to where I was.

This is such a ridiculously impoverished feature set for a media player that it is hard to believe I am not missing something.

So - is there some way to enable a different fast forward speed that I am not aware of? Is there some way to 'save' a bookmark at a point in a .mp3 file to return to it later? Is there anything at all I can do to make playing different .mp3 files at different times not so utterly and ridiculously painful?

Thanks!
