'68 Porsche 912 conversion - 2005 STi EJ207
Ok, so I'll post up my transplant project. goal is to mate it to the 901 for now and be gentle with 1st...we'll see how long that lasts. i want to run as much of this motor in stock form but due to fitment issues, some things will have to be changed, namely exhaust hanging too low and oil pain also too low. header will be a 4-2-1 equal length and place the turbo in front or near the crank pulley. i'd really like to just keep the intake manifold just the way it is so i don't have to redo the stock wiring harness. i'll be running the stock ecu as well so it can handle the AVCS
Wali at JDMRacing set me up with this lovely beast, a 2005 STi EJ20T ver 8 spec-c motor. got an adapter plate to mate it to 901/915's from Outfront the harness on the motor is complete but i will have to source a few connector ends to make a connecting harness from motor harness to the ecu. also will need the connectors that plug to the ecu. if anyone has any ideas, i'd be much obliged. parting shot with the ps and ac gone Last edited by RonW; 11-13-2013 at 09:47 AM. |

I have the V9 Spec C, from Wali. Congrats, nice engine.
Get the killerb oil pickup, to protect your investment. The part number of your pickup is the same as the USDM Sti that is known to have problems. Mine was ok when I replaced it, but now I can forget about it. Also, this engine calls for an oil radiator. When you install it, the oil temperature becomes more stable and I the oil pressure seemed to climb 1 notch. Take a look at the EJ207 owners thread, there's a lot of good info about maintenance, etc. If you're doing a bigger turbo, I suggest the FP oil line kit, it's well put together. This engine comes with tables in the ECU for automatic intercooler sprayer. Also boost per gear and temperature. You can ajust the gear thresholds, for your application. I changed them from OEM 6 speed JDM to my USDM 5 speed and it reads correctly. |

vlad, thanks for the info, will definitely look into that.
well, hit the pick and pulls and the like this AM but no luck on harness/ecu ends i'll have to see if someone has a full chassis harness but i sure hate to cut one up since the full thing is kinda pricey. anyway, bolted it to the tranny and man, looks like is was born there time to start figuring out how I'm gonna mount it but i think I'm gonna use the stock motor mounts and tranny side of the motor and weld a bracket at the chassis |

Ed@EQ is a very good tuner. He's well known around these parts. I would have the utmost confidence in his abilities.

thanks guys. ive got an EL header to cut up and twins scroll flange to weld to it to relocate the turbo, a down pipe to cut up with a jdm twin scroll flange to convert it, chassis wiring plugs to connect to the engine wiring harness as well as a MAF plug and the 5 ecu plugs on the way. I started fab work on the motor mount to use the stock location with N Gruppe mounts but am still debating on best methods. i'll post up some preliminary shots later tonight. with all the parts coming in, this should keep me busy for a while.
oh, i found a tuner here in the bay area that has experience with JDM ecu's and spec c motors, anyone have experience with Ed at http://www.eqtuning.com/ in Fairfax? spoke to him and he uses open tune load the tune. I've got a fair bit of background with tuning w megasquirt (ms3/ms3x full sequential fuel and spark using tunerstudio VELive) but am not familiar with tuners around here. |

Yes I'm using the Subarugears kit. I had nothing but problems with type 1 trans and porsche boxes are expensive. I am using the 5mt shortened.
I know most of you had problems with the 5mt but I will just be powering 2 wheels. Wheel spin will be my problem It will be a autocross car. I will post pictures shortly. New to this forum. |

Any shots of the car please? Love the build and the idea. I assume this will only be a rear wheel drive, right?

plan is to use an adapter to go between motor and stock porsche 215mm flywheel so stock parts can be used. there is however an conversion flywheel but the adapter would be better i think.

twin custom radiators behind each head light similar to how a boxer or 996 is set up. wish i could run those radiators but i dont have that much space up there. cooling lines will be run thru the side heating ducts (if you know 911's you'll know what i am referencing) on one side over the front wheel arches to one rad then out to the other side to the other rad then back via the other side heating duct to the motor. should be pretty clean and no cutting required!

thanks for the kind words. Exhaust is likely going to need to be custom. Stock location is not going to work without having to hack things up and do some majoy mods. You will first have to figure out your desired turbo location. once there, you'll need to build a custom header/collector/up pipe to the turbo and then the down pipe to some small muffler. I've seen it done a few different ways but all will have to be custom. Once this is done, you'll still need to figure out the cold side to and intercooler and into the throttle body. Wish we could use the stock location but the drives side shock is right there and in the way. best of luck! |

I had heating tubes in a Citroen air cooled boxer engine, I know how they work.
Nice project, lightweight too. Last edited by Vlad; 10-20-2011 at 06:02 PM. |

What size of radiators are you using? And what size of tube going up front? I have done a similar set up in a type 1 bug. Using two gsxr 1000 rads in front fenders. Directing air from the small lower ports in bottom of fender and from directing air from underneath. So far no problems I live in Canada so I do have a colder climate. The stock sit rad is fairly large. I had doubts on my set up. I will try posting pictures.
