Default Will an EJ251 shortblock work with EJ253 heads?

I've got a EJ253 longblock from an '07 Forester with some apparent main bearing issues. The heads have been rebuilt, so I kinda don't want to look for a new longblock (would prefer to reuse). However, I have a couple of EJ251s hanging around. Can I use the shortblock from an EJ251 and put the EJ253 heads on it to put back in my '07 Forester? Any issues or suggestions with that?

i was looking into this for another forester, if not mistaken the piston height is different and would hit the valves, i was told you may be able to get away with swapping out the 253 pistons and installing them on the 251 rods, and doing it so you dont have to crack open the case halves and going that way but i cannot confirm or deny this as my customer ended up going with a new short block instead

PCV system will be slightly different, but workable. Otherwise I believe they're almost identical.
