Need Help With: Cigarette Lighter
Okay guys,
So I hear this has happened to a bunch of WRX drivers but no one has posted a solution yet... So I had my cigarette lighter socket quit working. I checked fuse #4 to the left of the steering column and the fuse is 100% okay. I tried to remove my lighter socket but I can't seem to figure out how to pop it out of the plastic trim that holds it in. Furthermore, I can't seem to find out where this "fusable link" is located that is in the wiring for the cigarette ligher. Can someone help me out?? I'm leaving on a cross-country roadtrip tomorrow afternoon, and I'd feel a lot better knowing that I could still take my portable A/C inverter to charge a cellphone with or whatever.

Nevermind...
Fixed it. Turns out the thermal fuse inside the cigarette lighter was blown. Got a Heavy Duty cig socket at Autozone and spliced it into the cig. lighter wiring. Works like a champ now! |

Can you please pm me with a description of how you fixed this problem. What do you mean by a thermal fuse?? This happened on my 02 wrx just before I got rid of it and it has already happened to my 06 STi. Thanks in advance for your help....

It is somewhat common when high-current devices are plugged into the lighter and the socket overheats causing the thermal fuse to blow. This typically happens with DC-AC inverters.
