Exclamation NTAG Driving Event Announcement...You are invited

As promised, here is the information for the NTAG Spring Driving Event. If you have any questions, feel free to post them here, on the NTAG form, or by email to [email protected] (JamesC), [email protected] (DawnC) or [email protected] (Amer-AudiGuy!)

NTAG Forum Thread

NTAG Spring Fever 2002 Driving Event!!
North Texas Audi Group would like to announce it’s second track event,
The NTAG “Spring Fever 2002”.

The event is on May 3, 2002 at the prestigious Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) in Fort Worth. We will use the Infield Road course that is 1.35 miles long, with no elevation and no oval exposure. Spectators are highly encouraged to attend!

Who may participate?

We will welcome up to 35 total participants. We will provide very limited driving instruction, so the event will mostly consist of drivers who have at least 2 days of on-track experience at a major racing track. The event is not limited to Audi drivers. All makes and models are welcome! If you meet these requirements and you want to truly get to know yourself and your car on a higher level, then this event is for you!

What is the purpose? How does this event differ from other events I’ve done?

As with all performance driving events, the purpose is to find the limit of yourself and your car and try to combine these two things into a meaningful and confidence building experience. We also want you to get to know your car and your skills and apply some new techniques on your own. Since the event is open mainly to drivers with on-track experience, and the event is limited to a relatively small number of people, we can easily and safely practice driving techniques on a fairly safe road course. In addition, the track is short (1.35 miles) so it will be easy to fine tune the technique and practice over and over again, as each lap will take under a minute to complete. With no elevation changes, consistency and development of technique will be more easily achieved. With only 35 drivers, each participant will get far more actual track time than with traditional events. Run Groups add organization and safety to performance driving events so they are extremely useful. Spring Fever 2002 is no different; we will make use of two run groups. This rule will not prevent you from getting all the laps you want. On May 3, you will get all the driving on the Infield of TMS that you want!

What is the cost and what are the requirements?

The cost is $125 for NTAG members. The cost to non-members is $155. Cleverly, the cost to become an NTAG member is $ 25, so joining our beloved organization will save you five bucks! The NTAG Spring Fever will begin at 8am and end at 5pm. We will provide free on-site technical inspections from a certified Audi mechanic the morning of the event, so arrive at 8:15am. Each on-track participant will be required to wear a helmet with a Snell rating of 95 or better, long sleeve shirt and pants. All clothes must consist of natural fibers. The temperature will likely be fair in May, so prepare yourself for the day with lots of water and supplies! University Park Audi, formerly Park Place Audi has generously offered to provide lunch for participants. All participants may make checks payable to Amer Saleh, who is the North Texas Audi Group Treasurer, by April 17, 2002.

Safety!

Safety is the first and foremost concern of both NTAG and this event! The TMS infield road course is short and flat and provides maximum visibility for maximum safety. The track is equipped with multiple corner worker stations that will be manned for additional safety. We will utilize traditional on-track communication flags to alert drivers to upcoming conditions. We will use one passing zone on the braking straight after the pit exit before Infield Turn 1. Passing will be allowed only after the signal of the driver being passed. Runoff for this track is quite safe with only a couple exceptions, which we will point out at the event. Given that the purpose of the event is to explore limitations and practice technique, there always exists the opportunity for error. TMS is equipped with a professional comprehensive safety crew who will be on duty for the duration of Spring Fever 2002.

How can I prepare?

First, the best prepared driver will have all appropriate safety gear and will have his car in top shape prior to the event. Extra brake pads, brake fluid, tire gauge, air compressor, torque wrench, and tires being in good condition are all things the require pre-event attention. Fuel will not be available inside the racing track, so prepare yourself if you intend to use racing fuel. Gas stations are located within 2 minutes of the track. The track has complete restroom facilities as well. Following are maps of TMS.

Spectators are more than welcome....no charge. (no promises, but ride-alongs might not be out of the question...we'll have to check that out!)

In fact, if you want to spectate from one of the flagging stations, we'll probably even feed you lunch!

Dawn,

Thank you very much for the post and the invitation.

I sent my PayPal to Amer this evening, and hope that I will be "confirmed" to participate.

It sounds like it will be well run and a lot of fun.

Thanks again, GoodFinder

Awesome! Should be a lot of fun. I'm trying this week to get Red Bull to come out and join us. Several have requested NTAG Pit Babes! We asked them to come out to our last event but they were all in Sweden for training

bwaa haaa haa
Hopefully this time...

It's going to be neat to see so many fellow Subaru enthusiasts on the track at the same time. Especially to see Chris coming out ... he can show us how it's really done! The more the merrier. It sounds like it will be a fun day, and I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks again for the posting and the invitation.

Just drive up to the track and follow the signs to the infield. You'll drive through the tunnel under the track and can park in the garage if there is space left Just ask for: Tristan, Amer, Dawn or James. See you there!

I'm fairly sure we could accomodate a few ride-alongs. I am in contact with TX Motor Speedway today to confirm availability of extra helmets. Shouldn't be a problem. In addition, we should have a few extras of our own to borrow. Hope to see many subie drivers/visitors on May 3rd!

thanks,
tristan

Tristan - Thanks for the update. It will be a fun day.

Group - Who else from i-club has signed up? From the postings so far, I see we have 6 people on the track (Chris Flemming, JamesC, Tristan, gmflex, and myself) and Rodan coming to spectate. The more the merrier. Anybody else from the i-club gonna be there?

I'll be there. I'll be running stock struts and springs since the coilovers are being sent out to be rebuilt soon and the turnaround is 3 to 4 weeks, but I'll be there none the less.

Man I wish I could go and drive with y'all. Maybe I'll show up and watch and try to catch a ride in Steve's car, or Chris's car. I'll just stand there with the puppydog eyes and look pitiful

Jason

And I've got a helmet, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Jason,

Come on over! I hope Chris takes some more videos from inside his car. Maybe we can talk him into doing some narrative with it. That would be pretty cool, indeed.
