GT49 Meth and a slipping clutch
Jay, a good customer of ours was tuned with his new combo of parts. Ambient temps in the shop were 97* with humidity around 60%, so needless to say, conditions were not perfect. Anyways, the car ripped, and made some amazing torque for a smaller 49 turbo. I've always loved the element turbo, and with meth, they really shine.
Parts: Element GT49 EWG APS DR725 APS 70 CAI PE 850's APS 3.5" TBE Stock boost control with Prodrive solenoid set to 24psi with 50/50 alcohol water mix. Note, the power chart is skewed because no matter what we did, the clutch would give at peak torque.

That looks really good... sucks about the clutch! That would've been one great looking graph. Spool is really quick

what's the difference between the two plots?
Glad to see a bunch of posts... this forum was much better when there was good traffic in here from a bunch of tuners. Keep em coming! |

Looking awesome as usual, sucks about the clutch though! The spool looks wicked and I'm sure he'll be back to finish up the tune once a new clutch is on order.

XX Tuning,
I have noticed that you consistently tune meth injected setups with mid 11's for afr's. Any reason why so rich? |

Probably for an added safety margin. Agile did the same for my tune. If the meth for some reason stops spraying, 12.5-1 a/f plus higher boost levels = bad...

I tune fairly conservative, I don't tune for peak numbers but more for consistency. Is that rich for a meth car? Depends on the tune, timing, boost.. etc.. If the car runs over 22psi, I will generally tune them to 11.5 afr. Anything under 20 psi on meth is generally 11.8 or so.. It's just my methodology, I like to know that a car will leave here safer and give up that 10whp over a car that is on the edge but makin absolute peak power. - Chris |
