I'm guessing right after a fill when there is no accumulated mileage, along with some idle time.

my WAI works so well, i decided to remove my CAI on the buick and build a WAI for winter. same thing as the Subaru, March/April it will get switched back and reinstalled Thanksgivingish time.

don't laugh at this one, it was the best place i could reach, too much stuff to get to the back of the engine, and 3" pipe takes up quite a bit of room. Buick needs to have the area behind the headlight and the fenderwell blocked off too, maybe tomorrow, those areas let in a ton of air (CAI went into fenderwell). as this one sits it is +25-30F over outside, so I can definetly do better, +55F seems to be ideal.

Ya. My other intake is 3.5" exhaust pipe and straight shot to the fenderwell. This was the only way to curve it around to a warmer area.

That is sexy for sure. Form follows function, so I think it looks just like it needs to. Im looking forward to seeing the results from it. I wonder if it'll be more dramatic than the scoobie.

Maybe. Car used to get 30mpg regularly on the interstate. Now 27.5 is good and in the winter i'm happy when it breaks 24 (see a lot of 23). The subaru even with awd gets better mpg then the Buick ever did, but it has served me well for the 180k I have owned it, 240k overall.
At this point it is 1hr of my time and 10.00 in parts. If it doesn't work im not out anything

I am curious though as to how well the computer reacts because it is a '97.5, so the computer is primitive by today's standards

Man, flyboy, stop talking about your Regal...

You're making me miss my GS! I used to have so much fun with that sleeper, it always took my buddies '97 GTP coupe off the line I think I used to get 18-20 mpgs in it, I'd have to check my records.

As for the subie... fill up today netted 24.87. I'm a little freaked out right now because the computer was dead on.

Smile 36.6 Avg Mpg City

Filled up, drove 5.9 miles home.
When I parked the MFD read 36.6 AVG MPG, 27 AVG MPH.
Drive home was 45MPH first 5 miles, 35MPH next 1/2 mile,
then 25MPH rest of the way.

Was all the way up to 38 AVG MPG about a block away from home,
but by the time I slowed, stopped and backed the car into the
driveway, it had dropped to 36.6 AVG MPG.

These cars get great gas milage in city DRIVING, it's the
STOP SIGNS & RED LIGHTS that drag it down!

Yeah, that's what city driving is; stop & go at slower speeds. If you didn't have to stop, you would have got 40-50 mpg doing 45 mph.

That happens. Even with mine being adjusted, once every 20 fills or so the computer will be higher then calculated. The other 19 times calculated usually beats the computer by 1mpg

Mine has been 2 mpg over almost every time. 24.9 this time.

And I wish this was true, even if it was reading 10 mpgs higher than actual ;-)

Is it still really cold where you are? Even when it was -9 here, I was averaging 25 combined with extensive idling at startup. But with normal conditions, I average around 28/29 combined this winter.

I'm southeast of you near DC. You can see the temp for yesterday morning in my pic.

The cold really didn't effect my mpgs that much. Since new my average has been consistently 25-26, with a low one when we got that snow (having fun) of 24, and a high one when half the tank was decent highway milage (visiting fam during holidays) of 27.5.

I've said before that I pretty much consider all of my normal driving to be city, lots of short trips and stop and go. My work commute involves 6-7 miles on the highway, but it's on the worst beltway for traffic in the entire nation, so I don't consider it highway milage. I'm also a semi-aggressive driver, as I can't stand to be behind idiots and I have a lead foot. All causes for poor mpgs compared to most.

Ahhhh, Gotya. Yeah, this cars mileage really shines when you're light on the gas. If I drive lightly, I can average 29-ish combined. A road trip one day netted me almost 35 highway. I'm going to Charlotte in May for a race, and there's a few other shows this summer that require trips. I'm really curious to see what I can get on a whole tank of gas on the highway.

Yeah, I believe I could be doing a lot better. I had just filled up a mile from the highway, 7 miles later I had been getting 42 mpgs before hitting that stop light and snapping that pic. I have no doubt you will be getting great mpgs on your 400+ mile trip. You might be able to get there on one tank!

BTW, You going to the 600?

haha Yup. It's me and my Dad's father-son yearly thing. We go down for race weekend. Been doing it for years, only once changed up by hitting up Daytona. We want to add-in Indy here before long too.

Are you going to the big AWD meet in Ocean City this year? I think it's in like June?

Cool, I used to go with some buddies from work every year from 2004-2010. Used to pack up an e350 camper and go down there while getting 10-12 mpgs (trying to stay on topic)!!

I want to go to Watkins Glen with my pops for the inaugural USCC race there this year.

Don't know about OC. I think another one of my friends goes every year with his Audi, maybe I'll hit him up.

12.0 litres per 100 km for this half-tank (36.286 litres for 302.3 km driven).

For those of you south of the border, that's 19.6 MPG.

Reason for this absolutely ****ed-up consumption:

1. a/c due to using the windshield blower (with no way to disable the a/c), usage at around 75% of total driving time, thanks to craptastic moist and humid Vancouver weather

2. traffic moving slower than molasses in a Fort Mac winter, causing commutes to take longer and for me to have to mash the gas and brake pedals in order for me to try to get to work on time

3. 100% city driving - no highway runs at all

God, I love this ****ed up Vancouver traffic. [/sarcasm]

You win!

Mine might be the worst traffic in the USA, but I've been to your city during the crazy traffic of pre-2010 Winter Olympics. I was grateful for not having to drive while I was there!!

There's a small possibility that it might be the calibration of the fuel pump at the gas station might be off - it was pumping really slowly, and the digital fuel gauge (as much as I ****ing hate it) couldn't possibly have been so far out as to show 5/12 boxes when I "fueled up" about 2/3rds of the stated tank volume.

However, I'm more inclined to think that the horrible fuel consumption is a product of the craptastic traffic conditions here, the stupid inability to disable a/c while venting the blower through the windshield vents, and the fact that my car didn't see much (or any) reasonable highway time this tank.

Ok, I'm done being pissed off. Let's hope this week's driving will be a lot smoother. I might just take my car off to the freeway for some self time / driving time, to blow off some steam.

It came early! Feast your eyes. Installed in 30 minutes. once you hit 4,000 RPM it sounds like rocket and you can't hear your speakers anymore. You get insane engine roar from this thing plus a little improvement on the sound of your exhaust. Gave me a little bit of a chub when I installed it and first tested it out. Instructions are Army-Proof. So far it's worth it but def should not cost as much.
