Thumbs down Springfield Subaru - Exhaust warranty issues

Now I don't know how much of this is my fault, but I just walked out of the dealership after a lot of verbal exchange.

I bought my WRX Wagon used and everytime I'd take off, i'd hear a clanking noise (10000 miles) so i took it to Springfield and they said that I needed a new exhaust and that it would be replaced under warranty. So they were going to order one and call me when it was here. weeks go by and i did not hear from them. So I called them back and they say - oh we called you and left messages but no one called us back so we sent the exhaust back.

I was getting ready to go out of town so I figured that I'll take care of it after i comeback. And i forgot about it. Now i'm at 35800 miles so I go back to Springfield and tell them that they said that i needed a new exhaust and i'm here to get that done.

Drop the car off and come back to pick it up today, the exhaust is not replaced - coz there's nothing wrong with it. They say that hte problem is that I have rocks in my catalyic convertor and it the rocks that are making the noise. And asked me to pay them $80.00 to check the exhaust. But the funny thing is that the noise has been coming even before the car saw dirt and last time the mechanic saw something was wrong but that problem is not there anymore.

to say the least, i won't be going back there anytime soon. my girlfriend has a jetta and they just lost service business on that car as well.

Welcome to the joys of owning a subaru. You dont have a warranty you never did and never will. Been there done that. Been to 3 different dealerships and they are all the same. I will never buy another subaru. But I plan on keeping this one, makes no damn sense to me either. lol

went to a subaru dealer to take a look at an STi. The salesman was a jerk, also told me they'll make me sign a waiver to void warrnety work when any aftermarket parts are added even subaru STi parts.

Subarus are starting to make great cars but they better shed their crappy customer service and sales network if it wants to compete with honda or toyota.

Sooner rather than later, Subaru America will get hit with a class action lawsuit regarding their warranty practices. Most dealerships only aggravate the situation, also.

The last time I took my car to the dealer, they specifically asked if I had any mods on it. Not good.........

my car threw a CEL once, not really sure why, but i think i just didnt tighten the gas cap enough. anyways, i unhooked the battery for a few minutes, started it back up, everything was fine, anyways, no problem... so i called stohlman subaru and asked them if it came back on if i could just bring it up there to have them read the CEL. she said "yeah sure we'll check it under warranty, but you don't have any mods right?" i don't except for my HIDs but still that was kinda irritating.

does anyone lurk into honda forums to see how honda deals with the whole "mods and under warranty work" situation?

i used to have an integra so i know the jist of how they are. they have a pretty good handle on things as far as i see them. they'll cover most warranty work so long as A) there are no serious mods, i.e. any forced induction or nitrous and B) the modification is not directly the cause of whatever problem you had. They aren't gonna say something like "well you have an intake so you must race the car so we won't fix your busted shock" which is something im getting the idea that subaru does.

Default Dealer bashing

I am not trying to say dealerships are not crooks, they are, some... but I got some work done on my compressor when it was making a horrid noise when the air conditioner was turned on... my car was not stock... at the time it had a unichip, hoses, diff. muffler, etc... and they never said a word to me... other than do not try and get a tranny replaced. I am going in now with 33k+ on the care to get the clutched looked at... I know have a UTEC, full TXS TBE, and more.... I mean we will see how it goes...

I've had the same crappy experience with SOA and dealers. I stopped going into the dealership for anything. The last time they did they basically tried to accuse me of tampering with my cars odometer because it only had 16,000 miles on it at the time and its a 99RS. I finally gave up and left the dealership annoyed as hell because they basically wanted me to prove I didn't screw with it. They do make it tough to justify ever buying another Subaru.
