Default swap question

what all is envolved in swaping a 2000 SOHC into a 98 legacy gt that had a DOHC? I need a engin bad and wanted to know if this was a good Idea or should I just stick to trying to find a 2.5 DOHC. Also wanted to know maybe some pros and cons of either the SOCH vs. DOHC. Thanks for any info. Also would just using the new block to the old heads work? That's where the problem with my old engine is is in the Block (belived it to be a bent rod). Thanks again for any help.

Aaron

I know there are no 2.0 SOHCs. Just asking about the swap for DOHC to SOHC. Is there an advatage to this or should I just try and look for an engine that's more closer to a model year and is a DOHC?

I can't recall the advantages, but if you're just looking to get a motor to get back up and running, I think finding similar year model engine is the way to go.

The only advantage I can think is the whole head gasket issue. But if you install the newer style head gaskets while our installing the DOHC motor, you should be good to go.

My local mechanic says he hasn't seen any issues with the redesigned gaskets.

You will have a huge amount of wiring to due for the engine and ECU. I bought my 2.5 DOHC from these guys, $920 to my door. http://www.tigerjapanese.com/product...roducts_id=394

Use the shortblock from the SOHC engine and mate it to your heads. That's the path of least resistance. And those SOHC heads are worth $250-300 if you sell them off. They are good heads, but are far to difficult to get to work in your car. Your DOHC heads are jsut as good...

Yeah, that would be my concern.

For the wiring hassle, you might as well go with a turbo motor. IMHO.

Ok to continue……….I have a 2001 legacy gt sw, with a non turbo 2.5…..I’m am looking to do an engine swap……does any one now what engines would fit in my car. I was looking at the 2.5spec b (290hp) or a 2.2 or 2.5 wrx engine……..then what transmissions should be paired up with the engine?????? And suggestions I already have a fully custom exhaust headers back.
