Default Swap an EJ257 or not?

First off, THANKS to all of you that helped me avoid a mess with a JDM EJ20G!

Now, I'm at that critical decision time, to rebuild/swap or just replace my DD. I have no interest in getting involved with a hybrid setup and don't even really want to deal with used parts so... Bottom line, can a brand new EJ257 or even an EJ205 be done for $3K including the labor to swap it?

Note: Car is a 2002 WRX.

I doubt it. When the EJ25D in my Legacy died the Subaru dealer quoted me $3000 for a new replacement engine, and thats a non-turbo. Labor quote was $1500. Which is why I'm going used and DIY for my swap.

For reference here's some prices from a couple vendors:

Millennium Auto lists their complete STi motor kit at $4800, which has a used engine.

ECS Performance charges $3000 for labor for an EJ257 swap. That does include wiring though which you shouldn't need.

Just curious, does anyone know pricing for a new EJ205 and 257 from the factory?

I wouldn't go backward with a JDM engine, so your EJ20G statement was right on.

That said, you don't have the budget to swap. Sorry.

You could do it, for 3K if you did the labor, but sounds like that isn't the case.

If you're willing to look around and take your time buying parts, you can do it for around $3000. I bought a new ej257 block and used ej257 heads for a decent price, then I used everything off of my 205 engine. Even still though with all of the gaskets and other little parts it was in the low 3k.
