Default Spontaneous Alarm

Hi All,

98 Legacy Outback
alarm goes off spontaneously (thank god just the lights)
its draining the battery so now I am stuck unplugging the security system when I get out of the car so that the car, which means the FOB doesnt work and I have to reach down to plug it back in every time I get in the car in order to start it.

Looking for a way to disable the alarm without disabling the fob...etc

TIA for the help!

(unrelated?? side note: recently replaced the starter, and wasn't having this issue before I did that.... )

I assume you disconnected the battery when you replaced the starter?
If this is the OEM alarm, it will come up in panic mode when power has been disconnected. There should be a button under the dash, if you press it with the key on it will cancel the panic mode and stop the alarm.

I'd say I'm 75% sure I did this after I replaced the starter. Would that function different than me using the fob to lock/unlock the car and turn off the alarm? I have been disabling the alarm that way, but then it will spontaneously go off again later in the day. I hope its that simple, but won't be able to test it out until later this week (not willing to risk the car not starting again and having to uber to work haha)

Confirmed today, using the button under the dash does not prevent the alarm from spontaneously triggering... any other ideas?
