Default How many of you guys have had it with gas?

So how many of you guys are so furious that you are contemplating selling your cars? I am not selling mine because anything else AWD or 4wd uses twice the gas that our cars do.....but I was just wondering how many of you guys have had it and are just gonna do without awd....it's a sucky topic to bring up - but I have noticed far less activity on the car boards lately and far less modding because of all the stupid gas problems and it just makes me wonder - Dan

I personally haven't slowed down one bit and would prefer to get as much use out of my car before local rationings begin.

I don't know why all of this is so surprising to anyone in this country. The writing has been on the wall for years that gas is a finite resource and if not today, someday soon, gas will be gone (or impractical). Electric, hydro, solar, etc may never be as fun in a car. Enjoy it now.

Sold my WRX last week because I bought a Prius in late July.

Yeah, I saw the gas prices rising and knew I could probably do without AWD or a turbo. I didn't see them rising quite so much, or so quickly, though.

yea i have had it, i have a 04 rs so i get to at least use reg but i went with my frnd to get gas before and they were out of reg so that doesnt even help. i was thinking of just taking mine of the road for a while and getting like a 95 civic but its not even worth it. if this stays like this long term i dunno what i will do, at this point i dont care about how fast my car is cause i dont shift above 3,000 to try and save gas. subaru needs to come out with a awd hybrid that loooks sick. i have a bit of a reserve lol, i filled my 90 blazer up before it completely broke like 6 months ago and its full so if gas does start to get rationed i have at least a tank and alittle bit more. it realy is depresing looking at these prices

Jesus christ people, this is temporary. People need to quit freaking out, this isn't the end of the world. In all this hysteria people are forgetting this is caused by damage from a hurricane, once the damage is repaired and the off-shore facilties and refineries and repaired, we'll be back to normal.

It could take years to repair and it is no guarantee that prices will go back down even after repairs are done

It would be great to see more people go out (from panic and ignorance) and buy more hybrid cars or if it just kept more people off the roads and out of my way.

haha - back to normal. I remember 3 years ago when $1.00 per gallon was normal. I don't think I've seen any commodity price being inflated in price so quickly.

I am in a conundrum about what to do with my car. When I bought it, gas was less than $2 and I lived in a snow climate. I now live in SoCal, don't need AWD, gas is $3.50 and I have to drive way more (and my insurance is way higher). I have been spending as much in a week on gas as I used to spend in a month and the car gets 16mpg in the city (21 highway) no matter how I drive.
I don't want to sell the car I really enjoy it, but it is getting to be too expensive to run for me and it is not much fun if I can't flog it. I am worried if gas gets much higher it will be difficult to sell the car because no one will want it

Winter will be here in a few more months. I'll then need my AWD and I'll be driving a whole helluva lot less.

But if it hits $4/gallon for premium, the WRX goes and I'll pick-up an old SE-R which nets decent gas mileage, only requires 87 octane, is still fun to drive, and carries not even a third of the insurance of a WRX.

I just spent the weekend with a geologist who searched for oil, he says there is not much danger of running out soon and many geologists believe oil is a renewable resource (albeit a slow to renew) It is the cost of finding it and refining it that raises costs.

Default Doing the math

I use about 15 gallons/week (1 fillup per week)

at 2.00/gallon that's $30/week, or $120/month
at 3.00/gallon that's $45/week, or $180/month
at 4.00/gallon that's $60/week, or $240/month

so my gasoline costs expanded by $60 per month.
Having a job, I'm not sure why this is a cause for hysteria. One night of eating out at a nice restaurant with my wife costs at least $60. I'm certainly not going to sell my car over this, and I'm skeptical that many others would do so either.

I would say the cost of housing is more rediculous than the price of gas!

I've had it with all these threads about gas.

You need gas, you buy it, you live with it.

OK I see you really know what your talking about.
i bet you dont know that their are over 5,000 oil rigs in the GULF OF MEXICO
and i would also bet that you do not know that more than 200 of those rigs are now GONE and more than half were severly damaged! and the most recent news is that the pipeline that brings in over 1 million barrells of OIL per day is most likely severed... yeh i could be months even years before our energy and transportation infrastructure is back to normal.

I should know I own a fleet of tanker trucks that moves the fuel around the Southern Region.

Where is the info of >200 rigs destroyed. I read an article of about 9 or 10 floating around, but where does your info come from?

Well that is your scenario, not others.
I used to spend about $80- $100 a month on gas. This month almost $400 -Big difference

If you're spending $400/month, and were only spending $100/month in the past, I'm not sure how you can attribute it to the cost of gasoline only, since gasoline has not quadrupled in price recently.

This article claims 20 rigs missing. I'm also not sure where the 200 came from.

I was willing to spend more for gas when i got my WRX a few months ago, but i was surprised to find that i average like 25 mpg...when my old 2003 fwd Protege5 (with 130 hp, NA) averaged like 24. On the freeway my WRX averages like 29.5 when the best I ever got in the p5 was like 30 one time ever. So no, im not that upset.
