Default Differences between 2015 & 2016 WRX Kicker Subwoofer

Hi all,

I'm looking into purchasing a used 2015 kicker subwoofer for my '17 base WRX. From research, it looks like the 2015/2016 kicker subwoofers have different part numbers because the harness connection to the radio is different. However does anyone know if the female plug on the subwoofers is the same between the two, and that the only difference is the harness connection into the radio? This way i can save some coin by buying the '15 subwoofer used and getting the right 2016+ harness directly from subaru.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: see below for the confirmed part numbers. The subwoofer between the 15 and 16+ WRX's are the same, its just the harness that goes from the subwoofer to the HU that is different. Part numbers for the subwoofer with harness, or just the harness itself are listed below.

2015 Subwoofer/Harness#:H630SFJ200 or Harness Only: ??
2016+ Subwoofer/Harness#:H630SFJ301 or Harness Only: H630SFG810

Optional: Subwoofer bass limiter: H630SFJ400

2015 Part #:H630SFJ200
2016 Part #:H630SFJ301

Lastly, i'm assuming that the 2016 subwoofer will fit in a 2017. Can someone confirm if this is not the case?

Thanks in advance!
Those subs are WAY over priced for what they are. Just have a system put in your car professionally...

I went with the Harmon/Kardons from the factory and I'm extremely happy with how they sound

Yes - if buying new then the subs are pretty overpriced. But at used prices they are a bargain IMO. Additionally i prefer the factory fitment of the sub over having a random box in your trunk.

My '15 WRX has the HK system, and while it works great, is way overpriced IMO which is why i didn't opt for it in the '17.

You should be able to buy a 2016 harness (or the previous gen "Navi" harness) and use it with the 2015 Kicker sub

Subaru sells a bass limiter (Part # H630SFJ400) that is compatible with the BRZ, Impreza, Crosstrek, WRX, WRX STI, older generation Impreza, Impreza WRX, Impreza WRX STI etc.

Part Info:
http://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru__/S...630SFJ400.html
http://subaruonlineparts.com/subaru-...er-p-3930.html

Install guide:
http://stis.subaru.com/proxy/78203/p...assLimiter.pdf

As you can tell, the plugs are the same on both sides (sub end of the harness and plug from the sub amp). This is because the only difference between all these Kicker sub versions is the enclosure and HU harness (20 pin or 10+6 pin)

Hope this helps

Yes the sub is the same, fits over 50 models of subaru's. The only thing different is the harness.

I got the kicker sub brand new off eBay for 350.

Would anyone be able to confirm the harness p/n needed for a 16+ wrx? I found h630sfg810 online but wanted to get a second confirmation. I saw "H630SFJ301" in Ivan's build thread, but thats the p/n for the whole subwoofer kit

Thanks for all that helped. Just confirmed that for the 2016+ WRX's, if you just need the subwoofer harness, the PN is H630SFG810. Updated original post, hopefully it helps others in the future.

Thanks for updating the thread with the part numbers. I bought a used sub off another member who sold his 2015. I didn't think about the compatibility of the harness until I disassembled the car and realized the plug was different than that of my head unit. D'oh. Just ordered the correct part from Subaru!

Can anyone confirm that H630SFG810 will fit a 2017 with no navi? Got the kicker sub off here with no harness and need the correct part number. Thanks.

According to Kicker, the "guts" of all of OEM Subaru Kicker subs are identical. The only differences are the three enclosures (sedan, wagon, BRZ) and three variations on the harnesses for the different styles of Subaru radio harness plugs:
1) H630SFG810
10- & 6-pin Subaru/Toyota style power/speaker harness. For all models with "STARLINK" style HUs (with the large, gloss-black fascias). And the Fujitsu Ten navigation HU used in older models -- 2012-2014, and some 2015.

2) H630SFG130
20-pin Subaru/Nissan style power/speaker harness.

3) H630SFG210
14-pin older Subaru style power/speaker harness, used with OEM Kenwood navigation.
MSRPs on the replacement harnesses are $100 or more, but they are significantly cheaper at online discount Subaru parts vendors. Also ask your local dealer if they'll match a shipped price from one of those.

Quote:
The harnesses insert high-pass filters between the HU's 4 main speaker output channels and the car's speakers. The harnesses tap the front speaker channels before those filters and send that along with +12V Battery (constant-on) and ground to the subwoofer. The sub automatically wakes up when it detects sound, and shuts off after a period of no sound.

All subs have the same 8-pin connector near the sub. It is the same 8-pin as the one used by the older, rectangular, OEM under-seat subs, but the pin-out is different.

The OEM "bass limiter" harness simply omits either the left or right speaker channel going to the Kicker sub's 8-pin harness. While that will attenuate the level a little, it will also make some songs sound wrong -- any that send some bass instruments to only the left or right channel, or ping-pong sounds left and right. The better solution is to insert two resistors (each one in series with the left+ and right+ speaker leads at that 8-pin).

Kicker subwoofer too strong!

Hi SVXdc - do you know if theres a way to get the subwoofer working on a 2017 with navigation and harmon kardon? everything plugs in properly, but theres no sound that comes out. Thanks in advance!

definitely interested in following this thread as I have a 2018 I would like to get the Kicker setup for, but don't want to pay like $500 for it.

I have a 2016 base Impreza with the starlink HU and really wanted to upgrade the sound while keeping it factory.

So using the information from this thread I went and bought a used oem kicker sub off of a 2012 Impreza (what the reseller had it listed as) for $150 and picked up the wiring harness H630SFG810 from a online Subaru parts store for $100.

Everything connected right up and I just tested it and everything is working. The sound is much better. Even on songs without base the sound coming from the factory speakers is much better as well.

I recently bought a kicker subwoofer, but it had came with a harness (10-pins) that doesnít fit my radio. I have a WRX 2015 Limited. The radio is a clarion. Iíve seen the above post about the different harnesses at first I didnít understand but now I think I figured it out. I just want to be correct and not order the wrong one.

I think I would have to get H630SFG130 (20-pin)??? The picture didnt load. On the back of the clarion I see a 20pin slot
