Unichip or UTEC?
Before you pick the UTEC as your choice, please consider what I have on my plate. My only performance mods up to this point are:
Godspeed Uppipe MRT Turboback MRT CAI Turbo XS MBC (Getting Samco IC hoses soon) I'm looking into purchasing a Blitz SBC-id and then maybe a used unichip when another comes down the pike here on i-club. Roughly it would be about $800 or so dollars. I'm not really into mapping and all that as this will probably end my mods for a while as I'm not looking to getting a bigger turbo or FMIC or anything else yet. By the time I get those, Tubo XS will probably have come out with something else new and the UTEC will be cheaper by then. Anyways, would it better just to go my route of Blitz EBC and unichip or buy the UTEC? Also, my MRT CAI has been consistently triggering the P0171 CEL (System Lean) recently - I don't know if I should just sell it or wait until I get my unichip and have it mapped for the CAI along with my other mods. Would the unichip help my car run where it's not running as lean and would it help by not triggerring the P0171 CEL? Thanks for any replies...

UTEC:
For no other reason then consistency! Also, to answer your question.. yes, either the Unichip or UTEC, or AFC for that matter, could help you with your intake woes. Jorge (RiftsWRX) www.ProjectWRX.com |

I have used a Unichip for over a year and it worked well. there was some part throttle hesitation but I did not do the 60% TPS mod which is supposed to solve this. If budget is a consideration you can get a used Unichip for half the price of a new UTEC and use it as your entry into engine management. If you decide to sell it at a later date it has gone through most of its depreciation so you won't be too much out of pocket.
All that being said..I have sold my Unichip and am on the UTEC waiting list (partly driven by the TXS customer discount...ended last Friday). I felt that I was ready to dig deeper into tuning and wanted to gain more visibility into what was going on under the hood. Cheers, Tom |

like Jorge said, consistency. Why purchase two seperate items when you can buy one that will do it better? Obviously there can always be something better out there but I think for the money you will not find anything better then the UTEC.

I was pretty sure I read in a post by Nathan that the discount for original TXS Unichip purchasers was in effect until Sept. 27. They have a 200+ unit backlog but the wait is not too bad (about a month)
Didn't catch the Blitz + used Unichip vs. UTEC in the original post . I would go UTEC if those are the 2 options. Tom |

I guess I'm just trying to get the most bang for my buck (who isn't ) and what's best for my application. I can get a used Blitz SBC-iD for $400 and I figure about $400 (give or take) for a used unichip. That's about $200 less than a new UTEC. I don't expect the UTEC to go down in price for a while, unless I'm one of the lucky ones that can buy it used here at i-club. Well I guess I can put it this way - how much better is it to run a EBC with a unichip than a DSMBC with a unichip? If it's not that much different, I'll just buy the used unichip to run along with my current setup and my DSMBC. But if there's that much of a difference between running the EBC verses a DSMBC with unichip, then I'll think more heavily on purchasing the EBC and unichip combo verses the utec by itself. I was thinking about just getting an EBC and that's it, but most people have said that I would get more out of my car with a unichip than just an EBC alone.
