![]() Is it street legal and registered in the US? If not, it's worth much less to you or anyone else in this country than it would at first appear.

![]() I'd look at it long and hard. I'll bet it's not truely legal title or no title. 97 means it needs to be OBD2. Does it speak OBD2 to a scanner? If not then it won't pass emissions, at least not here in VA.
I had a friend who had a gray market JDM Evo. It had a VIN from a wrecked US Lancer. It was legal, sort of. Legal until someone looked it over closely and saw the car didn't match the VIN. It wouldn't pass Emissions without a nice bribe. What I think you have there's a boat anchor which might be worth something to a very small group of people but, would be untouchable by most people. I'd ebay it to get the most exposure to the few people who might be interested. |

![]() I didn't even know that you could trade in an imported RHD car to a dealer. I would assume that you would get MUCH more selling it to an enthusiast rather than a dealer.

![]() its probably not a JDM STi. its probably just a swapped 97 L with some exterior mods, paint, motor, tranny, dash and cluster.

![]() Besides it being Right Hand Drive which would be a great conversion on a 97 L. I would probably say it came from across the ocean.

![]() I'm very skeptical that the car is a real JDM vehicle legally registered in this country. You may want to tread carefully if you're considering purchasing it.

![]() I've looked into the process of importing JDM cars. It's virtually impossible to import a vehicle into the US that was never imported to the US by a company. I'm not sure the WRX is that way though since the plain Impreza was imported.

![]() Honestly, between $15,000-$20,000 NEW ZEALAND DOLLARS. Work it out with the exchange rate yourself.
That 15-20k is only just a GUESS based off prices paid by people I know for WRX and STi Subies in that similar time frame. Is it a Type-R? |

![]() There's no way that car is legal for use on public roads in this country. Read this from J's Garage (JDM exporter):
If you are in the US : This is information about importing the JDM car into the US. As you may know, all the Japanese specifications vehicles (JDM car) are Right Hand Drive. Unfortunately, it is difficult to import JDM cars into the US at present except the 25 years or older model, race cars, show cars, and kit cars. It is because you have to obtain the approval from the DOT and the EPA in order to import the JDM car and it needs to legalize a car when it will reach to the US port. Let me advise you that unless you wish to present crash test data for any Right Hand Drive car, it cannot legally be imported to the US. This is prohibitively expensive as a vehicle must be crashed to obtain the data, and we do not support the crash test data. Also the JDM car probably do not meet the US emission standard. And after 1996 models probably need to install the OBD2 system in order to pass the emission standard. |

![]() Think about this: How difficult would it be for the guy to sell the car to an enthusiast if it were legit? Not hard at all.
So why is he trading it in? |

![]() Quit beating around the bush people
![]() If it is a legal car in the states and it is in working condition you could easily fetch $10k+. People pay far more just getting their 2.5RSs up to par with something like that. Hell, there is a dopey little JDM WRX on ebay for ~9.5k and its been in a war. I doubt they are going to sell it quickly but if you price yours the same it will move. |

![]() Yeah, it's worth something if someone is willing to pay for it. But if it is a true JDM car (doubtful, but possible) then it's in no way legal in the US, as the only JDM car made after 1982 that can be legally imported to the US is the R33 Skyline GT-R. Therefor, whoever buys it is going to have to be the type of person that doesn't care about that, which probably means they're using it as a race car.
If it's a swapped 97-L (far more likely) then it might be worth a bit more, as it would at least sorta be legal, depending on emissions and other car laws in the state your in. Either way, it's highly unlikely you're going to be able to just sell it normally on your dealership floor. E-bay or the NASIOC classifieds are your best bet, for sure, and you'll probably get somewhere between 8-10k for it. |

![]() Since you're a dealer, offer that sucker $5,000 for it. Put the car up on ebay and make your profit back.
^ Typical dealer suggestions. You'll never lose. |
