No, but before you put synthetic gear oil in your car you might want to do some reading here. Some people have found it actually makes shifting worse (possibly because it's too slippery for the synchros to work properly)

I agree! I read hours worth of posts and have come to the conclusion that dino gear oil is what I will stick with.

I will use Mobil 1 engine oil once I get to 10,000 miles. Wal-Mart has it in 5 L containers for a reasonable price.

So have you decided which dino to use? I have read Valvoline etc. But I am also thinking about the Subaru gear oil which someone posted a part number before.

I am using valvoline synth from a couple guys reccommendations. After all the posts on some people having issues with redline, motul, etc. I thought I would try the one I did not hear many poor things about.
I get the car back today, so only time will tell...

For $111.98??

Buy some Redline Shockproof and be done with it. I've had Shockproof Lightweight in my gearbox for well over a year and I love it. Shifts are smooth - no gridning. I can d/s into 1st gear at 25mph now with no drama.

The case has 20 bottles so it is $5.60/bottle which is very reasonable.

Your owners manual has that number. I think it is 3.8 qt. It's too early and too cold out for me to go out to my car to check for you!

Adding gear oil is SLOWWWWWW! Get a good book to read while you wait and do not forget to buy a very long flexible spout so you can reach the transmission dipstick tube.

I have had multiple issues with the Mobil 1 gear oil as it is actually too slick and it's actuall weight is thinner than others. It usually causes misc. grinds and excessive gear whine.

I use Valvoline synthetic and have had no issues what so ever in both 5MTs and 6MTs.

So far I have tried Mobil 1, Redline, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Valvoline, and have had the best results with the last 3.

With the others I have experienced gear clash (grinding while shifting up or down a gear), excessive accel and decel whines and fluid breakdown issues.

I use Mobil 1 in my engine, and I just replaced my rear diff gear oil with it. It's not going anywhere near my tranny for the many reasons I've read on this forum.

Not a bit. The stock oil that I drained out looked clean and pretty clear even after 35k miles.
