Default Mobil 1 gear oil for tranny?

I heard that Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W90 is bad for Subaru transmissions, is this true? I heard that Mobil put out a notice about it but I can't find it on the web. I hear it messes up your synchros. Am I in trouble, I just put it in about 100 miles ago. Some one told me to switch it to Redline right away. What are you thoughts on this?

It won't hurt anything. Most people agree that standard synthetic transmission fluids are too "slippery" for the Subaru synchros to function properly.

Alright it doesn't get raced or anything right now. Someone just told me that it ruins the synchros.

Mobil 1 gear oil is not a good idea in the Subaru MT. Many people have had problems with it, it contains friction modifiers and is too slippery for proper synchro operation. Use an alternate synthetic that does not contain friction modifiers, or a non-synthetic GL-5.

I'd definately drain it out. I have Mobil 1 in my 5MT, and it was horrible for a good 30,000 miles. It's gotten better, but that's because I now have an additive in it that helps with shifting. Bronze! Even so, it still doesn't like going into 5th. There won't be any damage from just 100 miles, but over time you'll probably chew up your synchros. I'm in the middle of replacing it with a 6MT right now, and I bought Redline Lightweight Shockproof and MT90 from Summit Racing. I'm gonna run a blend.

I choose to stick with valvoline non-synthetic 75w-90 gear oil. 2k on the car since the change with no problems at all. I figured if it is not broken, don't fix it and used what is thought to be what the car comes with stock. Cheaper too than the synthetic.

I'd drain it and put the dino oil back in. And Redline in the rear diff. My scooby hated Mobil 1 products.

M1 in the rear diff is great though. It engages so much smoother when the car is cold.

I would put regular 75w90 gear oil, it will be soon enough that gears will start to bash
