I'm looking forward to trying out the new AP racing pads as soon as my 08 STI is back on track. Break-in miles in the next two weeks then the final Hydra tune in early May!

OK, here are some photos, which hopefully will explain the face clearance difference between the Stoptech and AP calipers.
This is the RealWheel Wide 5 16x11 that we are using. It is a two piece welded barrel with a bolt-in center adapter drilled for 5x100/56.1mm hub bore. There is an AP Caliper hiding in there-LOL.

This is the adapter by itself. Note the rather thick base of the pressed in mounting studs. When installed these windup being in line with the face of the caliper. See second picture, which shows clearance using a 15mm spacer and a 3 mm spacer.

With just a 15mm spacer the the wheels clear the face of the Stoptech caliper, but I need the additional 3mm(+) to get clearance with the AP caliper, here is why. The hat on the Stoptech caliper is approx. .300 higher than the AP hat, see photo. This places the centerline of the rotor .300 further inboard (towards the center of the car) than the AP rotor, when mounted on the hub.
The difference can further be seen in the mounting brackets (2nd photo).

Though smaller the AP caliper still sits further outboard than the Stoptech. I can solve the clearance problem my getting a thicker spacer, which I will have made by Adaptec, they can custom make any thickness you require.

So anyway, they look pretty sexy.

But, they are hard to see behind my big tires.

Here is the difference in the calipers, Stoptech ST-40 and AP.

The Stoptech setup is 2.9 lbs. heavier than the AP (per corner).

I hope to have these on the track end of May, otherwise it will be end of June. I will report then!!!

Coilovers work well. They are custom valved, with 16/18kg spring rates from Element.

Just got mine fitted. 17" OZ Racing HLT clears with space to spare. Amazing how small this kit is. Lots better pedal feel too. However, those in search of "bling" needs to take note: The rotors are amazingly noisy.

Got my kit all on. They clear 18x9.5 nto3 with a 8mm spacer. Note that I had to beat the rotor on as the hub bore is VERY tight. Its going to suck getting them off but thats something ill worry about when the time comes.

I bet this kit would be awesome for the BRZ/FRS.

We actually have this kit just about buttoned up for the BRZ/FR-S. Prototypes will go on our shop BRZ this week. We'll have two options...first is a Heavy Duty option, which is more or less the same specification as our STI kit in this thread. That will be the best choice for someone looking to go big power in the future. Our other (Sprint) system is optimized for the lower weight and power of the BRZ. It uses the same caliper, but a slightly smaller, 60 vane disc. That one will shave roughly 7-8 lbs. unsprung weight per front corner vs. the stock BRZ brakes.

Any more updates on this setup? Highly considering this to replace my Wilwood SL6 Narrow BBK due to the lack of viable pad choices and the small pads.

Was either looking to this setup or the ST40 355mm BBK

I finally got to run the BBK with DS1.11 in the front and DS2500 at the back.
Used Castrol SRF.
No problems with fade or stopping.
Just wondering about the nature of DS1.11: Does it still screech when it hits operating temps? This is because the DS1.11 screeched all the way during the track day.
Note: Track is a large 5km circuit with straights capable of 200km/h peak.
As I don't have anything to measure pad/rotor temps, so I was wondering if I was ducting too much air to the rotors.
Also I noticed more wear on the front tires then the rears. Should I be running DS1.11 on both front and rear?

2 competitors at PPIHC were running these brakes on Evos, they loved them. Badly though one car is destroyed. ( They are ok though)

I figure that it is about I chime in on these brakes. I have been running them since last May and they are absolutely excellent. So far they have 15 track sessions, (at 20 or 30 minutes each) 170 plus autocross runs and countless trips up and down my favorite mountain passes. For these brakes, that level of punishment is child's play! They never fade and the feel is always perfect.

I am currently running 5x100's so pad knock back was a problem on my previous brake setups. I don't even think about it now. It's a non issue.

The rotors do clack a bit when driving slowly and over rough roads. This has the tendency to weird most people out when riding in the car at first. But this true 2 piece design works absolute wonders for keeping heat out of the wheel bearings. This past year was the first time that I didn't have to replace a front wheel bearing at the end of the season.

The AP Racing C300 pads that are included with the setup worked well in every situation I threw at them and proved to be quite durable. For the first time I find myself replacing rear pads more frequently than the fronts (probably due in part to pad thickness). My only complaint about the C300's is the noise. They are freight train loud until you really heat them up, and that takes a lot of work. Proper bedding helps with this, but if you have to drive to the track they will be loud as hell by the time you get there. They a bit dusty, but not anywhere near the level of dust that you would get running a Hawk DTCxx pad. When not tracking the car I have been running the AP racing S100 compound pads. Obviously they don't provide quite the same stopping power as the C300; but they are whisper quiet making these brakes very tolerable on the street as well. The S100's also manage to keep the level of brake dust down to a minimum.

In the end I'm really glad that I went with these brakes instead of competing setups. The amount of money that I have saved with cheaper/thicker pads and longer pad change intervals is already more than the difference in price for some of the other systems that I was looking at. This means more money for track time! I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a seriously track worthy brake setup.

We run the same setup on our C5 and it works pretty well on that as well.

Why stop at font size 6 when there's a font size 7?!?!

"7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch."

Anyone use these brakes for a dd/track car in the salty winter months?

Wilwood also makes calipers with SS pistons and no dust boots, but they say that you are fine running them for a DD (even in the winter) so long as you take a few minutes to clean the pistons with soap and water before pushing them in when changing pads.

I know some people will say you NEED dust boots for a DD. I am just curious if anyone is dd these things (preferably in the winter), and for how long.

Thanks

My vote is no boots is fine on a well maintained car.
