If you've got your owner's manual, this is what they're supposed to do:
Inspect Drive belt(s) [Except camshaft] Inspect Camshaft drive belt Replace Engine oil Replace Engine oil filter Perform Replace engine coolant and inspect cooling system, hoses and connections Recommended Performance Replace fuel filter and inspect fuel system, hoses and connections Replace Air cleaner element Replace Spark plugs Inspect Transmission/Differential (Front & Rear) lubricants (Gear oil) Inspect Automatic transmission fluid Replace Brake fluid Inspect Disc brake pads and discs, front and rear axle boots and axle shaft joint portions Inspect Brake linings and drums Perform Inspect brake lines and check operation of parking and service brake system Inspect Clutch operation Inspect Steering and suspension Lots of dealers like to add stuff as recommended items that aren't on the list, then charge to the max. |

If you can do most of them at home, do them at home. I think the dealer charges way too much for a 30k service. I did all mine at home for under $100 for parts.

How do you dispose of a large quantity of brake fluid and coolant? That's my biggest pain with the 30k service. I spent over $400 on my Jeep's service and I'm not doing it again. It's not worth the money because I can do most of it myself in an afternoon.
Tranny/differential gear oil gets recycled with the motor oil at the local auto parts store, but what about the other stuff? |

For the coolant, if there is a WalMart, KMart, or Sears with a car care place, then they will take it. Also, try places like Midas too.
As for the brake fluid, I just threw it away although I'm not supposed to. |
