Default FP 18g vs Blouch 18g

So i am just about at the point of going nuts after all the reading i have done..

I need somebody to just flat out tell me whats up for me because i'm at the point where i just can't do it anymore.. I know everyone goes through this..

I have an 06 2.5 wrx..

Supporting mods that are gonna be following either of the turbos are going to be Inivida catless dp, dw cobb spec 750cc injectors, warlbro fuel pump, IGA tial 38mm EWG V-band kit with catless up pipe and dump tube..

I originally started off wanting the FP td-05 18g but then after many people told me to go with blouch, of course my head spun.. I don't know if i should go with the Fp td05 18g or the blouch 18g, either td 05 or td 06 i'm not sure.. I'm looking for more power for my car, but less lag? although all the power between those three turbos are close, i want to know which one will have least lag with my setup i plan on doing... i really need you guys to help me out on this and give me some responses that i would really appreciate..

thanks guys

Blouch td05 8cm 18g

td05 is the exhaust wheel and will help with spool, 8cm refers to the exhaust housing and will help maintain power at higher rpm, and Blouch because they use the larger td06 compressor housing which will maximize the efficiency of the 18g

After re-reading your post, I noticed you said "supporting mods that are gonna be following..." I hope you didn't really mean "following." Installing an aftermarket turbo on an otherwise stock car is a terrible idea. You should probably get full exhaust and a tune first, enjoy stage two for awhile, find a tuner, and then proceed with your turbo upgrade if that's still what you want to do.

You should also get used to reading, especially since you probably still need to be doing some. Also, I never went "through this" when picking a turbo. I made sure to read a crap ton. I don't even have a 2.5L, but I've still seen Davenow post several times on why the td05 8cm 18g is the way to go with that motor...

Edit: Last part of my post is now irrelevant. Oops.

p.s. There's no such thing as Cobb spec Deatschwerks 750 injectors. Cobb spec is a 565cc option that is made to work with the Cobb maps using 565cc injectors. That's a sign you still have lots of research to do before you think about upgrading your turbo. Also, you're transmission's lifespan decreases significantly any time power(especially torque, which 2.5L's are good for) is increased. They switched from 3.90 to 3.70 gearing on your car, which puts more stress on the transmission. The usual victim is 3rd gear.

i should have been more clear thats my fault.. i have a 6 speed sti tranny in my car and ive been running protune stage two for 2 years now.. i have all my stuff done.. im just going to buy all my parts for my new turbo setup and im going to put them all on at once and get my car tuned and go.. and this is the link to the dw 750 cc cobb spec http://www.jscspeed.com/wrx/turbo/deatschwerks.htm scroll down.. i appreciate the help..

Wow, good call. Guess I need to read more myself. Although I don't know why those injectors are made to "Cobb spec" since Cobb doesn't have a map for anything other than 565's... Edit- ask your tuner what injectors they'd like you to run

Anyway, good for you on already having the 6 speed. I made another mistake by not looking at your profile, I just saw where you mentioned "06 2.5 wrx" in the post.

Have fun with the 18g. It should be a blast.

Also, if you haven't already, ask your tuner what they think about boost control solenoids. A good 3 port can increase spool response and steadiness. And I know you emphasized lag. Some people will probably tell you to go 7cm exhaust housing to get the quickest spool possible. They might even argue that since you're going EWG it won't choke off quite as bad. But you really should have better off-boost driving, better gas mileage, and still very good spool with the 8cm exhaust housing. That's the way I'd personally go with a 2.5L. FWIW, I rode in an sti with a rotated gt3076 last week(insane, btw). Spool was nothing to complain about at all, and ANY well tuned 18g will still spool quicker than a gt30.

i don't understand why you want to use the cobb spec injectors as it stats that there made for there off the shelf maps.

Blouch TD-05 18g8cm FTW. Blouch is better quality than FP IMO and has better customer service. The Blouche 18g's come ported as well, whereas you'd have to pay FP extra. Go Blouch. You won't regret it. Also, the regular DW 750's are fine. Otherwise, you're looking at a pretty solid setup for a DD (if that's what it is )

I was told that the 750 cobb spec just run better with the ap.. hmm i'lll look into that.. but what about that whole situation where people had oil situations with the blouch turbo.. like leaking or something... if you guys know what i'm talking about, id like to know what was up with that, if not i'll show you guys a link..

Blouch TD05 18G 8cm. Stay away from the 7cm as it will cause problems with the 2.5l. This is the route I plan on taking....If I had an STi tranny though, I wouldn't go anything lower than 20G. Thats just my opinion though(the 20G part). The 18G is definately the way to go with a stock WRX tranny.

Yeah I wanted to go with the 20g before but I changed my mind for the sake of my motor in the longerr run.. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be going with the blouch td05 18g 8cm but I noticed that they have some options with the turbo on their website.. Like.. It says the 8cm housing is 100 bucks more.. And then they have that stainless wrx line.. Do I need any of those? Or how bout that actuator.. I won't be needing that since I'm running an ewg correct?

I might get flamed for stating this.......do yourself a favor, go with blouch! I have nothing to back it up or experiance with either turbos or companies! Just out of pure faith that you will get better (< key word in this whole statement) customer service than FP, thats all

Now I just need to see what I need to add on when I buy the turbo from blouch's website.. Like.. I'm pretty sure I don't need the actuator cuz I'm running the external wastegate.. I need the 8cm housing and maybe that wrx steel line.. Ill have a good talk with my tuner today.. Thx for all the help up till now guys..

7cm tends to cause boost creep on the 2.5L. Due to the extra flow of the 2.5L (over the 2.0L) the 8cm is much better suited and rarely has a problem with boost creep. IMHO the general rule is 7cm for 2.0L/EJ205 and 8cm for 2.5L/EJ255/EJ257.

^^What he said. Also, the 2.5L produces enough exhaust gas that an 8cm housing should drive better off boost, and just generally be more efficient with that size motor.

cool thx for the heads up.. now i just need to talk to my tuner and see what kind of boost control and bov he wants me to use. on the bov i'm pretty sure i'm gonna go with a perrin full recirculating bov.. i think thats the smartest route to take.. and as far as the boost control goes.. what do you guys think about a simple perrin manual boost control.. i haven't heard bad things about those.

From Blouch, when checking out, you need to get the ss braided feed line for WRX or STi, which ever car you have. You also need to check the box stating you want the 8cm hotside. It's $100 (site it down right now. from my computer atleast, so I'm quoting you when you say it says it's ~$100). You shouldn't need anything else, or atleast I don't remember anything else when I ordered mine. You might want to consider getting it coated from Crucial, Jethot, or Swaintech to keep temps down. This thing gets HOT. Wrap your downpipe, cut your stock heatseild, get an aftermarket heatsheild, and get a proper intercooler. Do anything you can to keep the heat away. For boost control, you definately need to check with your tuner to see what he prefers to use. Jorge said to me "Anything is better than a manual boost controller." when I asked him. I was going to run the Hallman, but I got the GM BCS. Also check out Prodrive (HOA) and Grimmspeed for BCS's.

Thanks for all the info man.. very helpful.. i'll definitley talk to my tuner about the boost control.. I'm for sure gonna heat wrap the downpipe and dump tube for the ewg.. and i will most likely get the turbo coating blouch provides for like 50 bucks or something.. might as well considering the fact that i'll already be spending 1300.. as far as the intercooler goes.. i'm gonna go front mount, does anybody know anything about the css front mount intercooler? how is the quality of the intercooler? I just dont see any point in spending 1500 on a front mount that is gonna do the same job that an intercooler for 500 is going to do..

"Doing the same thing" is wrong. Check out the Car Parts Review forum for more in depth descriptions. If you have to go FMIC, I'd get APS or TurboXS. You've already spent this much on parts, why skimp? And though the CSS FMIC may be one of the better ones, there are much better ones out there.

Please go 8cm2. I get boost creep on my 2.0 with a 7cm2 18g...

I wish over and over I would have went with an 8cm2 housing rather than 7..

I'd also consider running a TD05 8cm2 housing with a td06 wheel..

I have a 7cm2 housing bored for a 06 wheel that I might use when my 18g dies...

Blouch has better customer service..

You can buy a turbo blanket kit from Jeg's for $40ish that will do a lot better job than ceramic coating and come with enough that you can use the extra on another turbo in the future. You could also wrap the bellmouth part of your downpipe, or just sell the extra to recoup some of the $40ish that it costs...

Doubt the turbo blanket would do nearly as good of a job. Plus, they wear out and you have to keep replacing them. I think a ceramic or thermal barrier coating (If Crucial does this to turbo hotsides) would work much more efficiently. Used with your stock heatshield of course.
And futurestiguy, the 9psi actuator should be fine, that is if you'll run under 23psi.

I've always used a Cobb heatshield from the day I put on a bellmouth(and heatwrapped) downpipe, and I can tell you from first hand experience that turbo blankets do an amazing job. I don't see why anyone would spend $100+ on ceramic coating that WILL wear off when a $40 turbo blanket kit will do a better job. You can literally touch the wrap and not get burnt; try that with ceramic coating and let me know how it goes.

Also, how's it going to wear out? It's just exhaust wrap with an extra aluminized layer. The lacing is steel wire. If you put it on properly, it should last quite awhile, definitely longer than ceramic coating. Plus, the turbo blanket kit comes with enough to do wrap most turbos 3 times if you wanted to.

I don't mean that to sound crappy, I just don't see the financial logic in ceramic coating vs. heat wrapping on a turbo.
