SOA Blog,

Can you confirm if anyone from SOA will be at the discussion about the next STI/WRX from this article:

"SUBARU Australia managing director Nick Senior will travel to Japan this week to take part in talks over what the next incarnation of the brand’s rally-bred, high-performance WRX and STI products will be like when they arrive in around 18 months’ time"

I think we'd have to assume yes, because Nick Senior is quoted in that same article indicating that the UK, America, and Japan are bigger markets for Subaru than Australia so he was concerned about how much say he would have,

sorry for the lack of contact lately - things are very busy here at SOA with new cars being launched, driven, etc. You can safely assume that SOA is represented at all major FHI meetings.

SOA Blog, the rumor about Tribeca being discontinued... is it true? If so, what is the status on that 7-Seat Outback we were promised as a consolation prize if said model is discontinued?

If it becomes official, you won't be hearing it from SOA Blog first, unfortunately.

Now, if a bunch of different media say that SOA has discontinued the Tribeca, THEN SOA Blog could chime in and confirm.

As it stands it's pretty much just Australia that's decided to discontinue the Tribeca, correct?

I was following a 2010+ Outback yesterday... That thing looks like a lowered SUV and looks like it could be modified to seat 7.

No, it was Australia that gave it one more year of life. All the rumors said it was dead for 2012, but the Aussies demanded another year. They also get the Exiga, but it's not selling nearly as well as the Tribeca there.

Ah yes. Thank you for clarifying.

I wonder what the Subaru.com homepage layout is going to look like if they keep the Tribeca and add the BRZ and Crosstrek?

It is not unheard of for SIA to keep building a vehicle, for distribution outside of the US market... they build the Legacy Wagon (non-outback) for Canada for a while after SOA stopped offering it to US customers.

Since it doesn't seem to be in the cards to offer us the Forester Boxer Diesel + 6MT.

Supposedly, Outback has the same or more interior volume than the Tribeca, since the OB's 2010 re-design, and the chassis is similar. It is not difficult to imagine Subaru tweaking the Outback to accommodate Tribeca's 3rd row directly across.

It is just sad that the Outback looks so dowdy, inside and out, compared to the Tribeca, and doesn't have the towing capacity, either. But it is almost 500lbs lighter, though, as it is now.

The wife does landscaping projects, so we may get a vehicle with more interior cargo versatility... but she hates wagons, and I don't like Outback's styling enough to disagree with her on that case.

08-10 Tribeca 5-pass is still somewhat pricey as used resale, and a one of the guys around here having huge down-time due to the automatic gearbox is discouraging me from it, but otherwise I would consider that vehicle.

Instead, I am looking at Forester 5-speeds. 09+ is still a bit expensive, too, and part of me would want to hold out for the FB25 '11-12, with easy oil changes (I do them myself), no timing belt concerns, and a bit more torque than the NA-EJ. But I can't consider the XT without a manual gearbox, and the budget is getting a bit tired of paying for premium gas on both the Legacy and SVX now. 50$/week/car, not counting the less expensive, but additional miata fuel bill, is tiresome.

So, Subaru, my question is this, and I realize I probably won't get an answer until an official unveiling...

Will there be a nice swan-song model for the SH Forester for 2013? Like importing the S-Edition, with Legacy GT's drivetrain? If it is fantastic enough, I'll keep buying premium fuel for a 268hp 6MT Forester XT S-Edition in WRB.

It would actually compete with Rav4 V6, and Kia Sportage SX Turbo... which Forester XT is currently losing face to right now, and be more AWD competent than either one of those faux-wheel-drivers with rear-wheel-assist on a FWD drivetrain.

Shouldn't that MY2014 now? I thought Subaru switched to a 4-year model instead of 5? The current Legacy/Outback debuted as a 2010, no?

No, they've been doing 5 lately for Legacy/Outback in the US: 2000, 2005, 2010, so the next will be 2015. They did 6 for the previous-gen Impreza: 2002, 2008 (with facelifts in 2004, 2006).

SOABlog can you comment on SOA's commitment to offering a 7 passenger vehicle for the next few years? I am not looking for specific models and a don't want to get into Tribeca, OB or ???. I just need to know if SOA will keep offering a vehicle with three rows of seats.

Peace,

Greg

SOA Blog,

Now that 2013 Legacy/Outback press release is out, can you tell us if the headlights have LED DRL (just like in BRZ)?

no, that design cue does not function on 2013 Legacy but it does mean there is more of a family look between BRZ and Legacy headlights.

I was at SIA on a tour just before the '10 redesign and saw A LOT of Legacy wagons. We asked what they were for and he would NOT tell us. Would there have been something wrong with telling us it was for export? We saw European Tribecas on the line and they wouldn't talk about those either. Whoopty do!!

What is different about the Outback from the Tribeca that they couldn't put the transmission oil cooler on it to get the same towing?

I agree. Would love to see this here.

One thing. What is the future of the XT? If they brought that over and then killed the XT, there will be a lot of very b***hy people on here for getting rid of it.
