Default Catback/Turboback Exhaust Question

I'm about to buy an exhaust for my 2012 wrx sedan. I'm hesitant to go all the way to a turbo back just because of emissions and possibly harder install. Is it much better for a turbo back or will I be okay with just a catback?

Better. We have no idea what that means.

If you run a turboback, you need tuning. So your will have to start the conversation with a tuner first to recommend a system and tuning and then decide on an exhaust.

If you run a catback, you can bolt it on and go.

Mufflers are in both and they are the things that change the dB and Hz of your exhaust which is probably the #1 reason people get an exhaust. Mufflers are part of both types of exhausts. Odds are, you just want to get a catback unless you have future plans for more power.

By better I just meant in terms of power output. Thank you thought it helped a lot!

If your serious about power, not talking about jam a big rotated turbo on e85 700hp, but efficient power, start here:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volumetric_efficiency

Go down the rabbit hole from there. Then realize a tuned intake and exhaust system is probably an unobtanium solution. Then just get a less restrictive exhaust, manage your heat, and increase your exhaust velocities.

But yeah, if not tuning, just get a cat back and enjoy teh rumbelz.
