Has anybody run an HKS BOV on an 02 before? Looking into a few different BOVs and I wanna know how this one sounds/functions.

That's a stage now ? Lol you can use any bov you want. You will not see any performance again from it with your stage 3 set up |

i am glad I found this info. I don't really care about to noise, and if stock can handle my boost then id rather not "upgrade" something that's not giving me gains.
thanks for the write up |

Good info man. Im still really on the fence though about whether to look into a full recirc, 50/50, or VTA. I have an HKS on my 05 STi not by choice but by purchasing of the vehicle. So far its held up great, sounds awesome, and can not find an issue with it. I am also looking into tuning her myself. Is there anything in data logging that will point to a BOV leak? Thanks.

I look to make sure DAM stays at 1.0, FKL at 0.0, FBK no higher that +/- 1.4 (can go up a bit more), and AF Learning 1 no greater than +/- 8%. A boost leak including one from the BPV can throw off any of these values depending on how bad the leak is. I don't recommend anything BUT a recirculating valve. And that's only if you're boosting more than 22 psi. Get a stocker back on if you're not heavily modified. The older STIs and metal body BPVs instead of the plastic junk. I believe the metal ones are less leaky. I had an APS 50/50 for a long time. It was a great piece and I maintained it well, but it was still not ideal for the motor. I have a Cobb now that does both full recirc and 50/50, but it is also prone to leak. The instructions say I should take it off and service the BPV at every oil change - not ideal. |

Personally, on my '04 WRX the previous owner gave me a BOV along with my purchase. I'm not to sure of the brand, I would have to go look, but it was a pretty nice one.
Anyway, a month or so after I bought my car I tried it out and within about a day and a half I took it right off. Obviously, there were no performance benefits to it and, I'll be honest, I did like the sound. The only problem was that the "psshh" it gave off lasted for a second or two and it made me feel like I couldn't shift as quickly. I'm not really sure how to explain in, you would have to drive it to understand. I wouldn't get a BOV, to me it's a waste of money. |

Thanks for the post. Really considering a BOV but I'm afraid I'll get annoyed by it eventually. I'll definitely refer back to this post when I finally make up my mind.

BPV verses BOV
Is there really any advantage to going to a BOV? Is there a real advantage above (or below) a certain boost level, or is it only for the noise?
I recently acquired a 2007 WRX with 133K miles. I am currently in the process of removing the engine for a good look over, timing belt change, look for hard gasket leakage, cam oil seal (it looks to have a leak now), etc. Depending on what I find, I may go with a new OEM stock short block and upgrade to a a different turbo. Does it make more sense to stay with a BPV even at 25-30 psi? fastzrex |

Good info. So much controversy regarding these. I might go buy a full VTA tomorrow just because reasons.

Excellent FAQ write-up! While getting straight to the point, there's valuable information provided. I never realized how simple it is to set up a BOV. And yeah, "sleeper" mode all the way =D
