so now i want to...im very experienced in the evo 4g63 engine and cars as ive had an 95 dsm and an evo9 but dont know where to start with this car as ive heard even an exhaust on these cars cause issues without a tune so i ask you..
whats the first things i should do power wise.. where do i start.. would i be correct to say intake, exhaust, tune.. or is there another way to go in subieland..

do a search for the words "first mods" here in the Newbie forum. You'll find a billion threads on the subject. Intake is not the place to start. If you're looking for power bumps, exhaust and tune. But honestly, without a budget and a goal, we can't really help you. For all we know, you want a stock power lifted WRX for rock crawling.

man you can never win on forums.. if i would have but a budget and goals and what for, id have to hear how thats stupid and why do you want to do that..

anyway.. heres my old setup and car.. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/turb...etup-pics.html for the end result of what i want.. which is obviously thousands.. but for now ill say 1000-2000 for a safe 50-80 hp bumps into the high 12's at the strip..

Full exhaust (turbo back, up pipe.. basically all the "pipes" haha) E85 tuned w/ supporting fuel mods (injectors, pump, ect..)

It's what I would do! but that's my opinion done from my own research. People aren't very nice on here but if you do search which I'm sure you have.. You can find some very very useful information on here.

Hope all the best and good luck!

Well, no. Here's why:

Budget - Without this, we don't know if you're dirt poor and just want cheap fun mods, or you're looking for an all out build. Based on the $1k-$2k, there's only the question of whether you're doing the work yourself.

Goal - We're not here to judge your goal. But we do request you have one. That could be as simple as "I want a fun daily driver that will blow the pants off anything I see, but not be unbearable to drive." or as complex as "I want a car that will do 9 second 1/4s and still be able to clear speed bumps."

You've now given us those things. Sounds like you're looking for a good Stage 2 set up, with maybe a few other mods. Honestly, a Stage 2 and a set of tires might get you into the high 12's... maybe.

It looks like your just wanting to take the first steps to get a little more out of your car. I would recommend starting out with an accessport and load the stage one tune intended for a stock car. after that if your still looking for more, get yourself a downpipe, they're one of your best bang for the bucks on these cars. at that point you would be whats widely recognized as stage two. if stage two with the accessport map still isnt what your looking for, find a local tuner that can maximize the power output you can gain out of your new downpipe, the maps that come pre loaded on the ap are better than stock but still leave some on the table to be on the safe side. If you live nowhere close to a subaru tuner like me, hit up eric at torqued performance. he can send you one of his base maps which will be a little hotter than what comes stock on the ap, plus he will fine tune it to your specific vehicle via email. all you have to do is send him data logs, he'll make adjustments and email you the revised map, you load the new map he sends and send him data logs of his revised map. he will keep doing this for no charge until everythings squared away.
Defiantly the first thing to do is get yourself an ap

thats what i was thinking... excuse my ignorance.. but if i did a turboback exhaust would that include my downpipe.. well let me rephrase.. i know it would include a downpipe.. butive seen for wrx there is an uppipe? like i said my first and only cars were dsm's and and evo.. so im used to a o2 housing and a downpipe.. so whats an uppipe in relation to a downpipe ?
again im sorry for being so stupid when it comes to these cars.. but until now..if it wasnt mitsu im braindead..

im thinking a turbo back, intake, and tune via accessport would give me a decent bump in hp.. would a sti intercooler or IC upgrade do anything or is that a waste ?

Assuming you're and experienced driver and know how to properly launch an AWD car, an aftermarket downpipe and a protune will get you into the low 13's or high 12's.

Cole and Loyale are spittin' truth, OP. $800-1000 can get you where you want to be. That's with a brand new downpipe too.

You're welcome to toot your own horn. We have a section dedicated to doing just that. Proven Power Bragging. Whole bunch of people tooting in there.

With a good protune, you should be able to lop about a second off that quarter time. Lots of YouFace vids of WRXs and STIs with "stage 2" mods running mid 12's with a good driver.

Intakes are just for noise. If you want one that is easily supported by an off the shelf tune, you have to stick to Cobb or AEM. Both, for the price, give you 1 hp per $100 dollars. Not a smart investment.

Clearly you did not read ANY of the stickies that outline exactly what you want. Go do a quick search on "stage 2" and be happy.

An STI intercooler cannot fit any 08+ WRX's.

Downpipe, injectors, fuel pump, front mount boost control solenoid, protune. Let's see what that vf52 can really do.

What is a front mount boost control solenoid? Is that where the blinker fluid goes?

The uppipe feeds the exhaust gasses to the turbo. Makes the turbo spool

Check the diagram on that webpage. Exhaust gasses leave the motor into header through uppipe which spools the turbo

Upon some reading, you will find out that Subaru put a catalytic converter in the up pipe from 02-05, which is why people replaced them with catless versions. On newer 06+ Models, the up pipe is catless from the factory and is usually replaced by owners looking to squeeze a few more hp out if their set ups or if your making "big" power numbers and replace it with a more efficient unit.

Got it.. feeds the header.. just something im not used to.. dsm headers bolt right to the turbo..makes sense now that external gates come off the up pipe..
Thanks

Just kidding, buddy. But not really. Honestly, a lot of the general stuff you can get your answer from a simple google search. For example: "WRX Uppipe" and then go to images gives you this classic.

Keep in mind, that's from an '02. But the same principle.

No.

Exhaust manifold>Up pipe>Turbo>Downpipe>Catback>Axle Back (if you want to get technical)

The up pipe "feeds" the turbo. Connects Exhaust manifold to turbo.

This research on your end is sucking, start using google.
