I wanted to upgrade the exhasut on the car since I got it. I wasn't sure which route to go since I am trying to keep this as JDM/OEM as possible. My options were the STi performance exhaust, S209 Mufflers, and the rare JDM Sport exhaust. Well I didn't want the STi Performance exhaust as it is technically more restrictive than the OEM Type RA/19+ exhaust. So that left me with very limited options as the S209 mufflers are $$ and the JDM Sport Mufflers are $$$$.
Browsing the classifieds on NASIOC I came across this combo of the Namless 3" midpipe and the JDM Sport Mufflers. Made and offer, and drove to Maryland to pick everything up!

Was going to let the car fund cool for a bit after picking up the JDM Exhasut. Well, a former Type RA owner and current S209 offered me his S209/Type RA-R fog covers. These were absolutely on my short list of mods. Couldn't pass up the deal on bought them.

The car feels awesome! Everything is designed to work together and once I installed the final parts the car just turns in so much better. Its not stiff like solid braces make the car feel, but these flexible braces do work when you need them to.
The last suspension piece that I am going for are the STi Pink Springs. After that I am moving onto drivetrain. Group N STi Shifter Group N Rear Shifter Bushing Group N Transmission Bushing Group N Transmission Support Bushings Group N Pitch Stop Mount Group N Motor Mounts I also have project in the works. I want to be the first RA to completely swap the S209's I/C sprayer system into the car with working paddles and everything. Still looking for the wiring diagrams to see if the I/C harness plugs into the existing RA harness |

Thanks! They definitely sound awesome and fit and finish is amazing. The 3" Namless piece is also beautiful.
Wish my first AutoX weekend wasn't canceled do to this Virus crap. Car needs its legs stretched. Also, found the JDM STi Rear Toe Links for sale separate from the control arms and snagged those yesterday. Last edited by archer1.8; 03-21-2020 at 06:40 AM. |

Love your approach to an OEM+ build. Fits the character of the car much more. Have you thought about adding a rear wiper? I'm always jealous when I see photos of our cars overseas with the feature.

The upgrades sound great. I just picked up an RA a month ago with only 900 miles on it. Super happy to be back in an STi after driving our 09 Outback for the past 3 years.
Luckily for me it’s such a huge change I’ll be quite content with the stock set up for the foreseeable future. But if I change my mind I’ll check back in with your progress. Keep us posted on the IC spray setup. That’d be awesome! |

I sourced the Type RA-R smaller windshield washer bottle and i would have to remove part of the front safety crash bar to do it. I decided not to go that far with it. Last edited by archer1.8; 03-21-2020 at 06:40 AM. |

With the JDM Sport mufflers with they attach to the OEM mid pipes or does larger piping need to be used?

The Sport mufflers are designed to fit the 2015-2018 Exhaust systems. That includes Stock and the STi Performance Exhaust. The Type RA and 2019+ Systems have larger diameter all the way to the mufflers and wont work with these mufflers

Was able to work with Japan Parts and have them source the JDM STi Type RA-R lightweight Windshield Washer Bottle. I filled both bottles and weighed them. The RA-R bottle when full weighs 5lb less. 13lbs compared to 8lbs.
It will work on the USDM cars, however some modifications are needed. The JDM Piece does not have a level sensor in it, and would requiring swapping the level sensor which is a PITA. That oem sensor wouldn't come out of the USDM bottle. The other problem is the USDM Bumper beam is different than the JDM one. The USDM Beam has this extra brace that is just bolted on to triangulate the brace and the frame rail. You need to remove the front brace to remove this brace. If I ever have the front bumper off, then I may remove this brace. But for now I did not install the bottle. |

Someone was parting out an S209 on Ebay recently. Spoke to them, and the owner is modding it for track use and was selling off some parts.
I had the JDM STi Rear Control arms, but not the Toe Links. Scored these for an awesome price. Alignment is totally out, but I scored some other S209 goodies I am waiting on for a total alignment. |

Made a deal on a set of S209 Bilsteins with the STi Pink Lowering Springs. They have 1000 miles on them, and I got them for a killer deal. Will take some comparison pictures of the Type RA Setup and the S209 Setup when the arrive. Cant decide if I want to get aftermarket camber bolts while I am at it.

My S209 Struts and Springs showed up. I found it interesting that the STi Pinks that come on the S209 dont actually have "STi" printed on them. The previous owner apparently had the one strut apart to "take a 3D image" of the top hat to make an adjustable one. He forgot to reinstall the dust boot. So I ordered a new one.

With all this Covid-19 stuff going on my work as a power plant operator has been considered "essential." We are operating on a skeleton crew at the plant, and I have had a lot more free time since all capital projects are on hold.
One of my pet projects for my Type RA-R themed build was to figure out if the S209 intercooler spray system would simply just plug and play into the existing harness of the RA. It turns out it does! Well, 95% The S209 as a different Instrument Cluster that has the warning light for the low I/C Tank Level. This plug just wont be used. No biggie. All of the parts for the swap can be bought directly through Subaru. If you shop around for the best prices it comes out to be around $700. Beautiful build. Truly inspirational.
Is that a real JDM STi Magnesium Oil Cap that I spy? They're nearly impossible to find. Quote:
