insurance is damned theft. We went from a 2016 Mercedes GLK with 50000 miles on it. More expensive car, with more expensive price tag, with more expensive repairs, with no safety tech except air bags and ABS.

We went from that to a 2019 Legacy Limited with Eyesight and the whole subaru safety suite. Went from an SUV to sedan, to a less expensive car, with more safety tech, which is cheaper to insure and my rates STILL WENT UP. I cross shopped and it was the same for many brands.

The Mercedes was cheaper to insure. REason given. Oh you have a newer car. So it is more expensive. I have been told many reason for my rates going up each and every single time I get new car including but not limited to:

Your car is bigger so it will inflict more damage
YOur car is smaller so it will take more damage
Your car is newer
Your car is high risk
Your car is an SUV
Your car parts replacement is higher
Your car is harder to repair due to drivetrain

All of this is BS.

Perhaps people that flip cars frequently are a higher risk. Also depends on your neighbors, location, etc. Actuarial math, and all.

So the announcement of a 7K-10K cycle battery has been lost in noise about what makes insurance expensive or not.

Why do they feel the need to brag about Laguna Seca if they're at the Nurburgring?

Shouldn't they be able to make a couple of runs and beat the PCar?

Well, if everyone read to the bottom you'd all realize Tesla likely won't be able to attempt a lap record since auto industry is there testing out all their cars and any lap record attempt needs to be reserved well in advanced. Apparently Musk didn't get the memo.

Or can't read a tweet:

https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1169751839035641857

It seems that Tesla got some private track time 3 separate dates in September which are impossible to get......:

Do you expedite me to read German?

The track times aren’t impossible to get, you have to reserve them way in advanced. I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make except for they have several dates in September.

And let’s not be stupid, shall we. I’m sure by sending out a tweet within 24 hours of Porsche’s news saying that “headed to Nürburgring,” he in no way meant to imply that they were going to beat Porsche’s lap time. Nope, none. Oh, and even you bought it and we’re post happy in the Porsche thread about it.

But I’ll just wait for “I never directly said xyz,” “I posted the tweet because it was funny,” etc.

Tell me, what does Elon taste like?

But we probably won't try for best lap time this week, as we need to review & tune Model S thoroughly for safety on Nürburgring, especially Flugplatz section
'Review & tune ... for safety'

So, no, it won't be a stock Model S.

Of course we don't know what Porsche did to the Taycan for their posted time either.

And it's just a coincidence Tesla publish their irrelevant (to this topic) Laguna Seca time a few days after.

On another note...
Porsche is typically conservative with their performance bragging. It's not uncommon for customer cars to beat their published times.

^Porsche confirmed Taycan was a production car on stock tires. You can order one now.

The Tesla was not a production car and ran 1 lap on a short track - because that's how to make 1+1=9. Checked the garage and my Viper ACR is still there, so they didn't use that - perhaps it was a GTR with a Tesla bumper sticker.

But, according to dickboy, the new 3-motor car is about a year away yes, like profits, or autopilot, or the semi, or the pickup, or the roadster 2.0, or the roof tiles, or new executives, or no more cap raises, etc. etc. etc. What a dick. Go give him your money.

Tesla is the dog who is proud to have laid the **** that is being scraped from the bottom of Porsche's shoe. What a joke.

Yeah, I’m not sure why Tesla felt the need to go set a lap time at Laguna Seca. Guess it’s something the Tesla fans can hang their hat on.

I’m convinced that the Tesla fanatics are in it purely because of Musk. If Ford has released the Model S, 3, etc, they would be calling it a turd and ragging on the issues that Tesla has had.

Don’t get me wrong, I applaud Elon for buying Tesla and getting it to where it was. Yes, he received tons of subsidies to get the brand going, investor dollars etc. but he managed to market himself and the company incredibly well and did disrupt the entire automotive industry to start electrifying cars. I think everyone should give him credit for that. That being said, Musk is in it for Musk. It’s not about “saving the planet” but purely ego. He sure as **** isn’t ethical by any means and the solar city acquisition was pure dog **** and in my opinion, should have been illegal consider Elon was the majority share holder in Solar City. Must have been nice to use investor cash to bail out your own share holdings in a company. FTC should impose new laws that if you a majority share holder or on the board of both companies that are about to merge, you need to divest all your shares prior to announcing an acquisition. If what Elon has done and is doing were any mainstream auto executive, people would want their head on a stake.

Not much to hang that hat on considering how modified it was. Different 3 motor drivetrain, much wider wheels with flared wheel arches, stickier tires, added aero bits, etc.

Can't make the goal? Move the posts.

Like you said it's Musk's ego. They could easily let Porsche beat them on track and market the S based on lower cost and the metrics it's better in like straight line acceleration and range.

A few Tesla stories, noting that the 3 motor bit has already been covered:

1) Rolling out the discounts to move hardware at the end of 3Q. End of year/4Q will see even more of a push, especially since there's the mental bit about the now-$1,875 Fed tax credit going to 0 on Jan 1, 2020.

2) The Tesla prototype that is running laps on the 'ring has 7 seats per Elon Musk. This is interesting for a few reasons:

a) They're probably going to go for a technical win by claiming fastest 7 seat electric vehicle lap time or some **** like that.

b) The prior jump seat configuration hasn't been available for a while (and couldn't be retrofitted--differences in the body pan), and was advertised as a 5 + 2 before, not 7 seats proper because the 2 were only kid sized.

c) Apparently it has a new Plaid powertrain with 3 motors. Presumably this is one front motor and one for each rear wheel. The torque vectoring possibilities with this are delicious.
