In 2020 Subaru will bring a 100% EV. Today they announced it will be the Forester.

This is the North American version of the XV. The images show it is a left hand drive model, the vehicle name is called Crosstrek, has two electric motors and there is a charge port on the left hand side.

The e-boxer is only a hybrid with one electric motor.

the images of the transmission are a little crazy though. instead of two motors in the rear wheels, the motors are part of the transmission. the motors are getting power directly from the boxer engine due to being tied in to the transmission or plug it in and charge the battery. you can drive on only the electric power for short grocery or shopping trips or get instant e-torque for strong acceleration. owners that dont do a lot of driving during the week can save thousands a year on gas. but subaru did not compromise the symmetrical drivetrain. they want full power to all the wheels

Yes, I have seen images of the E-boxer layout and it looked similar. However it
only had one motor where motor 2 is on plug in. Oh Toyota sourced motors and battery.

It is hard to read on my phone but Image 8 also shows the motor/transmission bring mated to a new 2.0 engine.

Not sure if the story is lost in translation or or it is a new engine design. Or they could mean new as the FB20 is running Atkinson cycle.

I believe it is that as none of the boxer engines are currently using the Atkinson cycle. can't wait to drive when they release in NY

Oh, image look so similar to e-boxer version! This could be my next vehicle if performance and electric range are reasonable.

"Electronic controlled coupling," reading between the lines, it looks like it could potentially uncouple to FWD when cruising. Rehosted the interesting images:

no I noticed that too. there will be no cvt band in this tranny. it gives hope to the wrx hybrid if there is a regular tranny instead of the cvt. looks like even subaru recognized they can't cvt all of them. if they do release an automatic STI, what does mean for the transmission. will it be a regular one like the plug-in hybrid.

Exciting because finally electrification. Not exciting because its integrated into the tranny which means $$$ and more effort for tranny/electric motor work.

Hopefully they're working towards that other rumour of boxer for one axle and electric motor(s) for the other. I see that as having more performance potential than this setup, and even better if they're kept separate in the driveline. Still though, good to see some electric progress... and I'd like to give this a shot if the mileage gains and price is right.

But if it is not a cvt.. what is it then?
Toyota uses lots of CVT's and I can't see them dumping the Eyesight system.. So I would gladly know this..

Subaru was in the back of the pack, but with this portofolio coming: mild hybrids and plug-in and in a year or so the Forester EV the platforms are there.

And they can bring it in all models if needed. Good job. Now new engines please

In their hybirds like the Prius and PriusC, Toyota varies the speeds of the two electric motors to get any effective ratio they need (ie: a CVT) from just the two planetary sets. Since Subaru is apparently using a lot of Toyota's hybrid tech, I'd assume they are doing the same.

hard to say, it would keep the symmetrical drivetrain, and allow an automatic STI hybrid, but hard to say how an automatic without the hybrid would look like.

We now have more informations on the Crosstrek PHEV !

Quote:
It appears as though the Crosstrek Hybrid (plug-in) will get a city all-electric range (AER) rating of 25.65 miles or an equivalent all-electric range rating of 26.273 (EAER). Meanwhile, its highway figures are AER 21.9 and EAER of 27.381.

My commute is only 10 or 11 miles each way. This would save some money in the long run. Especially once you factor in the government tax credit and 0 sales tax in NJ
