Compared to an STI, every other clutch feels as light as a Civic’s. The STI was absolutely tedious in traffic. I remember driving other people’s MT’s and stomping it the first few times like I was a freaking stegosaurus.

Joking about a clutch hold yes... not about the wrx being a workout in traffic... the 2015+ is light as a feather in comparison.

I think my gray hair is starting to show, but I remember a time before hydraulic clutches; you pansies need to stop skipping leg day

My 06 is butter compared to any cable stuff, I can't imagine the 08-14 is much more difficult. the 2015+ WRX is Toyota Corolla soft, in my opinion too soft.

I've been a proponent of an all new motor in the STI, but with the near inevitable addition of MORE stupid electrical nannies in the new one I might be better off in a 2019 with the revised EJ257. Provided the changes make it more reliable, but I haven't heard of any Type RAs being dead yet which is always good. There were Launch Edition 2015s with blown motors within a month or two of them being on the market.

As Justy said, I agree there will be a large influx of people going for 2019 STIs just in the fear of what they'll do with the next gen one. (Or how they'll mess it up, which is obviously inevitable)

My '07 Speed3 was way more stiff than the '16 WRX when I traded it in. Corolla soft sounds about right. I felt I could have even taught my wife first time on it pretty easily. I don't really mind though. My leg was sore after 1.5 hours of stop and go highway traffic once in the Speed3. Never had any issues with the WRX.

Series Gray sounds interesting... definitely a nice upgrade with the updated HU's. Oh well.

This and the mention that he (guy in video) thinks this signifies the last year in this generation's production has made me now think we could see new SGP WRX unveiled this November. Could make sense that this generation is shorter than the norm due to Subaru pushing the SGP. Then again, hyper blue came out on model year 2016, so.... ¯\_(***12484;)_/¯

I'd be in line for the gray if I was in a position to get the 2019 WRX, but alas I need another year or 2.

I think he just believes it will be last year for current model. Hope that’s true but won’t be surprised if Subaru releases New SGP next year. Still think outback and legacy might be first then WRX and BRZ.
Surprisingly outback sells well without going SGP so possibly Subaru might release WRX then outback but New outback will boost more profit for Subaru than WRX so outback might have a priority.

BTW 2019 WRX is exactly what I want but decided to wait for New WRX so tempted to get 2019 WRX T_T

Same. 2018 was it and then these updated changes make it even better. I'm also waiting for new WRX but might jump on an end of production year one if I don't like the design of the new one. I just hope they come out the gate with nice wheels on the limited instead of the base model wheels. I got my '16 WRX after I found out they gave new wheels to the Premium and Limited.

When I got 08 forester XT sports, I did not like new forester design so I decided to get one of last forester with heavy discounts. I hated to sell my Baja which was unique car but wanted turbo. Seems like new WRX will be much better car so I don't think I will go with current WRX because of SGP. if we don't see new SGP WRX next year, probably we will see many freebies/upgrades but I will be waiting for new SGP WRX. Also hoping for base CVT/or New auto transmission with eyesight option since I don't use moonroof/sunroof.

But the reviewers complained that the car was slower

As a current 2017 Impreza owner and former owner of an STI, BRZ, WRX, 08 FXT and RS Impreza coupe, I can confidently say that an SGP WRX would be worth waiting for.

I hope so after hearing all this positive talk about the SGP. I'm hoping Subaru shortens the average WRX generation time and debuts it this November for a 2020 model year since it is pushing the platform. If not, it will be a long wait (for me). I'm itching to get back into a WRX and maual transmissions.

I only had two Subarus which were Baja and 08 Forester XT sports and you said before that new SGP WRX will be better car than current one so I made a decision to wait for another two years for new SGP WRX. I spent about $2000 for 08 FXT maintenances a few weeks ago. The dealer gave new forester (non-turbo) and felt too big and power was not there so my only option will be WRX haha.
As soon as I pick up my 08 FXT from the dealer, I felt more comfortable and might want to keep it more than two years and saving more $$$ (currently saving $400 per a month) since first year production usually has more recalls/problems.

Honestly, I will be very surprised if we see New WRX for 2020 model.
I checked sales number for both outback and WRX. Outback sales numbers are much higher and Subaru will have more benefit to update new SGP outback/legacy first than WRX. Without new design, surpringly outback still sells well but with new design, there is possibility that Subaru can reach 20,000 outback sales number per a month. It might be 1000-3000 more cars than current level. I think new SGP WRX will be hard to reach 5000 sales number per a month (realistic goal might be 4000 per a month) but still well below outback sales number from comparing both cars sales number per a month.
Also when Subaru released SGP plan a few years ago, New WRX was planned year 2020 (no longer find that SGP plan document). Looks like Subaru is in line with those plan so I am predicting that we will see new SGP WRX for 2021 model (year 2020). Hope I am wrong though hahaha.

Im in the belief that the final gen of most things are the best, be it cars or technology (smart phones, camera, computers). Sure the new model will be nice but you know it will be topped and improved in the coming years. If you are spending money on a car, why not get the best of that generation?

If money wasn't an option, I'd probably pounce on a '18 or '19 WRX. I really like the improvements over the '16 that I previously had. I also would have loved the 50th anniversary edition WRX. However, the issue for me is my loan. In 1-3 years I'll be pretty comfortable trading my Jeep in with the trade-in vs. loan ratio, which may conveniently coincide with the next gen WRX.

Additonally, my wife thinks I'm crazy to get another WRX, especially if it is the same generation that will look the same (to her). I went to an SUV for starting a family but I can't stand not having a turbo manual. She has come to terms with it now .

I probably will be easily swayed into the last production year if I don't like the design of the next one, though. Like you said, it will likely be the best of the current generation and I'll also would have less to worry about with potential new model woes.

It looks like the WRX went $200 and the STI went up $500. CVT's $900. Destination and Delivery went up $25

looks like another "hard pass" year for me; time to order suspension for the old wagon.
