Well, this was.......disappointing. Sure, a turbo isn't necessary but it brings a certain appeal that I think will be missed. Then again, record sales numbers being what they are, I could be wrong.

I wonder whether or not Subaru is running into delays or issues to try and certify FA20DIT for EPA Tier 3 / Cali LEV 3 since they are awfully close to the MY2020 deadline.
I think the CAFE requirements may very well have something to do with it. Subaru doesn't have any small econo boxes to bring down their averages, and no trucks (with higher thresholds) either. So I suspect that fuel consumption is probably their highest priority with the new engine choices. I noted that the new 2019 Forester has exactly the same gas mileage now as the 2018 Crosstrek. That's a bit of a feat, given a larger, heavier vehicle. And the Crosstrek engine is DI as well.

Levorg. Levorg. Levorg. Please.

Agreed Subaru is just simplifying their model lineup in the US and responding to past sales.

If it helps Subaru become larger and better, good for them. They made great cars and decent prices.

But man it was such a let down for me to read no more XT. It was like one of my last hopes for a new family vehicle.

Forester Sport seems to have come from the October 2015 VIZIV Future Concept.

As someone who actually sells new Subarus, I can testify that Manual Foresters and XT Premiums sell, at my dealership, within a week. We have people lined up sometimes before they even arrive. XT Tourings tend to sit a little longer especially in the unattractive colors like Sepia Bronze. But, ones that are White with Brown, sell almost instantly. I have a XT myself, traded my 11 STi hatch for it and this comes as a huge blow to me. There may be a saving grace, I think if we band together and enough people write carefully worded letters to SoA, maybe we can get them to release an achievable compromise. The Outback is due for a full resign for the 2020 model year, thus we have plenty of time for Subaru to really consider this proposal. Many expect the Outback to drop the 3.6 in favor of the Ascent's 2.4L Turbo. If they simply made this engine available at the Premium or a new "Sport" trim level that they like doing now, this could be a reasonable compromise. As of now, the 3.6 is only available at the Limited and Touring trims, making them pretty expensive. If they could make a Sport trim similar to the XT Premium, priced similarly I could live with that. Thoughts?

Much like the home invasion scene in Dumb and Dumber, we can send SOA a message...but I don't think they're going to get that message.

RIP manual just like the legacy. Don't bother sending an email. The beginning of the end of being able to drive a car is upon us. Because being able to use a phone while driving is vastly more important. So sad...

Am I reading this right? The new engine is as powerful as the outgoing 2.4 in the crv? Lol!

I wonder if it's just XT Sepia Bronze. We have one as well. We can't keep the NA Sepia on the lots. Now, our lot guy wasn't doing a great job and that XT sat on the back lot forever; so, not totally sure if that's why we've had it soo long. It's been up front for a couple weeks. Lets see....

We just sold two premium XTs in as many days. Had to go get them though. Don't see the premiums often.

I think the Forester sales will be better than ever. I have no doubt about that after looking at the new 2019 model.
Forester sales aren't that great. Keeping within the 10k monthly but barely.

Totally underwhelming. Subaru is playing it very safe. Can’t blame them with their sales volume. At some point though, it’s going to turn back on them. Products like this mediocre effort is where Toyota and Honda were a few years ago. Wondering where their soul went.

Subaru has a pretty good gauge. I think they'll be able to predict that and adjust in time. From my standpoint, I can kind of see them "preparing" for that eventual loss of their streak. The thing is currently, they have several weapons they haven't even tapped yet; so....it may be a while.

Sales are slow because when you're looking at the outback and forester right next to each other. 2018 vs 2018, its hard to justify not springing for all the extra features the Outback has to offer that the forester does not currently, i.e. APPLE CAR PLAY. Cmon Subaru, doing the Forester like a step child

It’s one of those colors that I don’t want to like, but do.

What’s the big deal with Apple Car Play? My truck has it, never used it, what’s its advantage over Star Link?

The major advantage Apple Car Play/Android Auto has over Star Link or any software made by the car manufacturer is the native support for Apps (ex..google maps). This includes being able to interact with your phone through the head unit in the car. Would not buy a new car without Apple Car Play/Android Auto.

The major advantage is that the updates for CarPlay / Android Auto are tied to Apple and Google, and not the car manufacturers. More updates, more features, faster.

Onboard navigation is pretty good these days, haven’t used google maps in a hot minute. When you say interact with your phone through the head unit do you mean anything other than dialing or accepting phone calls? I’m trying to think of a phone app I would use while driving and keep coming up blank.

Theres a few music apps that can be used through android auto or apple car play. (mainly Spotify or Pandora). Also answer or sending a text through the voice option has been pretty helpful. Also using google maps or waze is good.

But the overall look and feel of android auto (in my experience) is pretty outdated. I do remember reading a lot of ppl arent integrating their apps to be used for android auto simply because there isnt a mass market for it. I am hoping with this push of cars having it stock they will start to revamp the UI.
