AT Paddle Shifters

I have an Auto BRZ for insurance reasons ($300 difference) and I wanted to put a NRG quick release steering wheel kit but didn’t know what to do about the shifters do I haven’t done it yet. Would it throw a code or mess up the car in any way?

Why do you need a quick release steering wheel. Is it a dedicated race car?
