so i have an 03X but i wanted to get my ipod working... i bought an XT head unit off ebay for relatively cheap, the 13-pin cable/harness from buxcomm, and a belkin ipod auto adaptor from ebay... i am going to attempt the belkin hack as seen here:
http://www.mindspring.com/~pmbenn/iPod/cable.htm

now i am getting ready to wire everything up... my questions is this... what wire on the buxcomm cable is for power so i can hook up the power cable coming from the belkin power cable? is there not one? should i tap into the power wire on the main harness? if so, what wire is the main power supply for the main harness? thanks so much!

Not to hijack this thread, but....Tom what kind of XM are you planning to get? Where do you plan on putting it? I just bought a 05 XT myself. I'm thinking of getting the XM commander & mounting it in one of the sunglasses holders. The Skyfi seems too large & maybe the roady2 is too.

i have two XM's onr roady and a skifi2 i use the roady for the car and take it into work and the skifi stays at home. the roady2 is a little thinner than the older one. i'm happy with that one. with the comander i dont think you can take it out and use it in the home or office.

Question Aux inputs on Stock radio 2003 Forester XS

What about the stock head unit on a 2003 Forester XS!!!

I tried to connect my MP3 player using the 13 mini-din but it does not have this input.

Any help?

The radio is the older 6cd changer with knobs on the front. Instead of having a mini din plug I found some large square inputs that did not seem to be used for anything.
I found some pictures of the head unit on ebay. You can clearly see the connectors on the left.

The 2004 WRX head unit has the same problem, there is no 13 pin connector, the only extra port on the back is for the factory sub.

I think there is this spot here:

http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4610

I don't think there is a harness that you can get other than making one yourself or if it can be used for the I-pod or not...

"There is no auxilliary input in the head unit of your
Subaru. We are currently working on this and hope to have this feature
available soon, hopefully in some of our 2006 models. As it is, I am not
aware of any method to install your iPod in your current Subaru."
John J. Mergen, Subaru of America

I received this email from Subaru of America regarding the 2004 model WRX, I am not sure if this applies to all 2004 Subarus.

I have an 05 wrx. Does anyone think this modification would work on my car for use with a sirius satellite radio?

pull your headunit out, and check to see if you have the round 15 pin connector.

Can anyone tell me what the connector with the two white and red dash wires is, coming off the main stereo connector?

Unhappy

Anyone have new information on this iPod connection issue? I'm migrating (immediately) from a Toyota RAV4 that had a cassette deck. No mas in my 05 WRX wagon. So I'm gonna be missing my iPod VERY soon. And I don't want an FM transmitter.

Default Transmitters

Just a quick observation on transmitters...

I have an iTrip and a 2nd gen iPod. Average performance at best, usually pretty poor. However, we got my son a Belkin TuneBase for his mini and it works great in the WRX. It's stable and the sound quality is a big improvement over the iTrip.

Default HELP I almost Have it

I have a baja with most likey the same head unit. It has the DIN conector. I hooked up according to your instructions but no sound. I play the Soundless cd but the ipod does not come through. All I hear is the noise floor of the system as it plays the blank audio track. It doesnt seem to be getting the input from the DIN. Is it the pin out? I know my wiring is good it was done by an electrical engineer where I work. Any sugestions would be helpfull. The face of the unit has a 134 on it. Model?

FYI, I have a 06 OBS with the 6 disc changer HU. I pulled out the radio today, and there's no 15 pin din on the back...just the fm, sub, and wiring harnesses. :-(((

This is all very cool, but I would take another approach that will work for any car with an FM stereo.

For about $15-$20 you can get a Pyramid PD1 FM modulator and install it in about the same time, maybe quicker. You would not have to screw around with a silent CD.

You can spend as much as you want on a FM modulator, I have seen them for well over $50. This one is cheap and I have had good luck with it, plus it is WRB.

Here is a link to one company that offers this (I have not ordered from this company, and cannot endorse their service):

FM modulators give you vastly inferior sound quality though... that's why people are going this route...

Default MY 01 with In dash 1+6CD changer

Will the 13pin DIN option work on a 2001 Outback with the indash cassette/CD head unit with 6 CD changer? Or is there another option for an iPod input?

Thank,
Brian

if you have a cassette deck, just use a cassette adapter... works fine...

Default pin out

Does anyone one know:
1) what is the left- and right- for the pin out on the picture below?
http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/att...achmentid=3411

2) on an rca cable is the outer part - or is it the inner part?

Default For Sale - iPod Solution Complete - Ready for install

I purchased everything necessary to install the Ipod solution described in this forum, however it does not work for my 2005 WRX. So I'm out of luck ! When I removed the radio, I unfortunately found that it did not have the 13pin connector for the inut. F#%k ! So I need to get rid of this stuff I purchased and cut my loses.

Here's what you get:
  • Belkin Auto Kit for iPod w/Dock Connector (Black)
  • 13 pin connector already soldered to the 1/8" stereo jack with 5 ft of patch cord.
  • Audio CD with over an 1 hour silent track on it

$50 + shipping and it's all yours. No connections to solder, and no trying to figure out how to make a blank CD. Just put it all together.

If interested, email me at [email protected]
I can sent photos of everything.
