This mod does not work for a 2006 Legact GT Spec.B or 2005 Outback.

Can anyone please tell me if the stock head unit (not the 6cd changer, but the base stereo) for the 2006 Forrester 2.5X has the 13 pin input on the back? My brother just bought this car, so I can't take it apart to check, but I wanted to make him one of these cables.
Thanks!

I was poking around for a way to wire my ipod into my new forester with the in-dash changer, and stumbled across this panasonic adapter at circuit city: http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/oid/...Detail.do#tabs

I haven't pulled the head unit yet, to check what connections are available, but reading this thread it sounds like it might be the cable I need. Anyone have any idea?

I can see that the connector on the particular cable that you linked to will NOT work.

I'm trying to find something similar to use on my motorcycle. The Yamaha Venture uses the c-bus control for a Clarion DC625 model, which won't play MP3 format.

I'm looking to create or do a connector with and iPod dock and 13-pin c-bus on the other end and control it though the system. Think it's possible?

Question dumb question....

Can you still use the radio after making the Forester modification described in the BOXXER thread? It sounded like the blank CD was needed because the stereo was seeing multiple inputs....and I like to catch the news on my commute home.

im attempting this mod, and i have the 13 pin plug and the 1/8in double ended head phone jack. I cut one end, and i have 3 wires, Red, Yellow and white. Which ones do i need to connect to numbers 1,2,3,4 pins on the plug?

i know i have to take 2 of them to the R+ and L+ then splice the last one into 2 and do R- and L- but which ones are which? or does it even matter?

I am going to try the tap in to the tape circuit of a factory '02 Wrx radio to hardwire in a bluetooth music adapter. I will post again if it works. Should be similar to what this guy did at the above link. Should be slick if it works. No wires to connect. Just get in the car with my phone in my pocket and hit play on the bluetooth visor gadget.

hello. I know this thread is old, but... so is my car. Much older than this thread.

I've a 93 impreza wagon with a tape deck and the 13 pin round connection. I pulled apart the radio with the idea of doing this I-Pod mod, and then went looking online and found this thread.

When I look into the round connector I find that pins 1-4 are with red and white wires. The first two pins are white, and are jumpered together. The third and fourth pins are red and jumpered together. But you don't really need to bother with this part for what I intended. Pin 5 is the ground for pins 1-4.

For my tape deck mod, I bought a toggle switch from digikey. I bought a 4 pin toggle, but only three are required. The switch is On-none-On.

I cut into the bundle of wires from the tape deck to the receiver. Under the plastic is a braided copper sheath. Some people have mentioned problems with engine noise, this is shielding for that purpose, so leave as much intact as possible. Inside the sheath you will find a grey smaller bundle. This has the the audio signal wires.

When you open up the grey bundle you will find a red wire, a white wire and the ground line wrapped around them. Separate them all out, cut and strip. Wire from the tape deck to one side of the switch and from the center poles of the switch back to the receiver side.

Then I cut off the ends of an adapter I had laying around that went from 3.5mm miniplug to RCA. I cut off the RCA, and stripped it back. Connect the grounds from each side, and wire those to the last set of poles. Now you have a switch between tape deck and 3.5mm minijack.

My cig lighter doesn't work, and I don't smoke so I drilled out the lighter and installed the toggle switch there. I also drilled a hole in the top of the ash tray liner, and fed the 3.5mm plug through that. My mp3 player fits nicely inside of the ash tray, and I can close the door to conceal.

I haven't tried this, but if you remove the tape from a cassette tape you should be able to run this without the tape clicking as it changes direction. If you don't mind the click, the sound does not stop while the tape changes direction. You just get a click.

I would put up pics, but it would just waste space. It looked like someone was trying to do something similar a few pages (years) back, so I thought I would post my success. And post the solution the question that was originally in this post. Please ignore the rambling poster....
