Old thread I know, but just wanted to say thanks to OP. I switched out my old head unit for a replacement OEM unit. Started when half-time in the Jets game started and finished the swap before half-time was over thanks to the info in this thread.

Gotta love this site for the useful threads like this and others.

Okay, question. I'm about to dive into this. I have my head unit and the Subaru harness. I just want to know if it's okay that one or two wires on the two connected harnesses aren't being used? I lined up everything on the Subie harness that has a matching color on the HU (Pioneer) harness. A few aren't being used. The two not being used I believe are the power antenna wire and the illumination one. There are questions concerning this elsewhere in this thread and they weren't answered by anyone.

Also, the two black wires, one on the Subie harness, and other on the HU harness. Are they both grounds? What do I do with the ground on the Subie harness?

Great info! Swapped my stereo this morning. Stripped a couple screws but luckily the alpine unit shipped with replacements.

Last night I installed the HU receiver above but this morning when I turned my headlights on the screen goes blue and the radio volumes goes to near zero. I then cannot increase the volume nor control the receiver in any way (just a blue screen). I wonder if you can help out. I used the appropriate harness, but if I leave off the orange wire (backup camera) would that solve the issue? I don't have a backup camera but the blue screen that comes on when the headlights show says something about the AV input or the backup camera.

Also I connected the pink (parking brake) wire to ground so the DVD player would work. Is this a grounding issue because the unit works great until the headlights come on?

How do I get the headlights not to turn the stereo off?

Please assist.

Here is what I installed:

The BOSS Tech dept got back to me in less than 8 hours! Here is there response.

If you do not have a back up camera connect to the unit then just disconnect the orange wire and that will fix your problem. Its seems that you have it connected to an illumination and that why it trigger only when the lights come on.

Where does one attach the grounding wire? I see no viable options. Right now I have it wrapped around a bolt/nut which goes through a plastic piece and then to a metal frame.

Is this enough?

You should only have to attatch the ground from the Subie pigtail harness to the ground on the aftermarket radio pigtail harness. Black wire to black wire. That's it.

No one? My radio sounds like crap when I turn the car on. I'd love to change it.

Sorry the pictures are gone. It's really an easy process. If you still need help I could probably walk you through it. Take care.
