I know I am probably going to open up a can of worms here, but I thought that it was supposed to be pronounced "impretza". How would you pronounce similar words in Italian, such as Calzone ?

God damn British accents are so much sexier than American ones. Sexier than Jon Davis on Motorweek, anyway .

She's what us Brits call a "Geezer-chick", tough as bollocks but still retaining some "girlie-ness" ! |

That's a fantastic mpeg! Essential download for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
Top quote from Vicki Butler-Henderson "Were they inspired by the classic lines of Ferrari? Or the muscular stance of Lamborghini? Err.. no because the front looks too much like a Toyota Corolla, and even Corolla owners will tell you that is a bad idea" |

The proper Japanese pronunciation is "EEM-PREHT-SAH".
I've never heard a Japanese citizen pronounce it any other way. |

Bzzt, sorry. Japanese pronounciation is very simple as the language can be written out phonetically. In this case, it's "Im-pre-ssa".
For some reason the brits think there is a glottal stop in there, and it' ain't. |

There's no 'T' in there guys. It's like calling the car a pretzel.
IM-PREZ-AH And I know I'm right because all news reporters in the USA have a midwetern non-accent (non because it's universally understandable) and and... well just because! |

The Japanese pronounce it Impuresa. The romaniztion of Japanese is FAR from phonetic.

How the Japanese pronounce it is largely irrelevant. It's plainly not designed for the Japanese tongue, even with my extremely limited knowledge of the language.
To me the word sounds like a computer-generated cross between "impress" (which you are supposed to do if you have this car) "her" (to stop it sounding *too* blokey) and the 'z' (however you pronounce it) to give it Italianate flair. Strictly speaking you'd need to 'z's, but there you go. I've never heard anything other than ImpreTza, from anyone. If they say it different, they're probably not from the UK or Australia or NZ - it's simply one of those words that is pronounced differently depending on your location. "Brits" (and Aussies and Kiwis) think it's called ImpreTza because that is how it was introduced by the importer - much like the pronunciation of Daewoo changes depending on the country (e.g. Day-oo in the UK, Die-woo in Australia). Any other pronunciation depends on the country you are in. So, please, don't go telling me that ImpreTza is "wrong" and what you say is right . Andy T |

So what's up with the British pronunciation of aluminum. They add, like, six extra syllables.

Actually in British english it's 'aluminium' (note spelling), hence the extra syllables.
