Are you going to do any wheel to wheel club races or just TT?

Yes I'm planning to do some NASA ST2 races this season, I just have to complete comp school. I may even try to rent a spec miata or something and do comp school earlier in the season so I have my license when the car is done. I'd also like to do an enduro or 2 later in the season, we'll see how things go though.

Have you decided on the airbrushed mural for the hood yet?
Im thinking this would look pretty tough: The new aero package should be sick too, put this to shame: |

I think the bald eagle we discussed earlier is a definite possibility, but that tiger just screams "dont **** with me." The aero package on the van is pretty solid, he must have spent a lot of time in the wind tunnel refining it. |

I'm doing something similar but not on the same time scale and budget as you ....I will be happy to be done somewhere in 2011. I will follow you're build very carefully.

Kosmic ... did you install that cage, or you purchased the car like that?
There are a few SERIOUS issues i suggest you address before continuing: 1) footings on the main hoop need to be at the lowest floor panel possible. In the case of the subaru, if you mount were you are, a rollover could deform the panel enough to actually puncture the fuel tank.... 2) Main Hoop and A-pillar support need to be installed, mandatory in ALL series as of 2008. 3) Front Upper windscreen supports, again, I believe the majority of series are mandatory now to prevent INWARD collapse towards occupants. I have attached the schematics of an international spec design to help guide you. Nothing is worse than having to re-do parts of a cage once the car is finished! Best of luck Last edited by MSI; 01-27-2010 at 07:52 AM. |

Let's talk about this via PMs, I don't want to hj BJ's thread.
I just want to say, there's no oem fuel tank in that chassi.....I have a fuel cell. The car ran in the Speed World Challenge not too long ago. |

How will you be finish welding the top parts of the tubes on the upper half of the cage thats against the roof now that youve already welded in your floor plates?

We normally double layer the floor plates in the rear. What you see is the first layer. We would drill a hole in the first layer in the rear and drop the cage down to weld it. After welding the top, you raise the cage back up and weld in the second layer of floor plate. After that, we box in the rear as well to tie it into the side frame rail. In this, case, we may be able to weld the top without dropping the cage, because we will be cutting the center of the roof out to install the carbon fiber panel. Regards, JJ |

Yeah Im used to seeing it done with the hole in the floor method, so I was confused when I saw the plates welded in.
And I forgot this car will be a convertible for at least a few days of it's life. |

You will notice that in this picture, that there is an additional plate welded in once the cage was raised back up.... Here is a picture after the rear boxing is complete: Hopefully that does a better job of explaining how it is normally done. Again, our plan is to try to weld the tops while the roof is off. We shall see. Last edited by IAG Performance; 10-13-2014 at 12:48 PM. Reason: update image links |

Thanks for posting those pics, looks like the cage is off to a great start. The front plinth boxes are a work of art

Good luck on the build, I saw you there pulling parts out of the old car when we were up for my tune last month. It's came a long way since then.
