I've had the EFR7163 for a little over a year and have had put 14k miles on it. I have not noticed any leaking of oil around the turbo at all. I have not added anything special for the oil feed or return. I occasionally get some smoke on start up, I just attributed it to a bit of oil getting past the rings as a result of the flat motor. Maybe that smoke is from excessive oil supply? But its not consistent, happens 1 of 10 start-ups.
A little more info about the motor: Built block (Darton sleeves, Manley pistons and rods) Rotated EFR7163 Botti tuned @28psi on E FMIC with rotated intake mani, (had a Spearco TMIC before and the heatsoak was too much) Old set-up: Current set-up: Aside from the smoke I couldn't be happier with this turbo! Spool and transient response is amazing for the power it makes. Its a little big for the smaller AutoX courses but I stick to the bigger events. I'll do some pulls tonight and post the VD, but the car is easily in the 500s. We had planned on getting to the strip this week but the local track is closed till August for resurfacing

I really wanted to keep TMIC with my 7163, seeing that im in a cooler climate than you in Florida. but Im super happy with the response with ETS FMIC.

My car puffs smoke at start-up every once and awhile. It'll got 20+ starts, then sometimes it'll be every few starts. It has done it since I put in forged pistons (Manley Graded drop-ins are too loose), even with my 20G.

How does you IAT sensor perform there? I have mine in the manifold opposite the TB but will be moving it to right before the TB where you have it. I wanna trend the difference in readings due to manifold heat soak. My location sucks.

Going to FMIC was a night and day difference. It picked up a lot of power, and heat soak isn't even close to an issue now. I have noticed no difference in spool either. |

Funny you ask that, on the FMIC set-up, its not ideal. The air that contacts the sensor goes through the 200 degree radiator. This heat soaks the sensor and the charge pipe. So what I did to combat this is use my intercooler sprayer! I have a nozzle on each side of the pipe, it drops to 2-3 degrees above ambient all the time. I might move it to the charge pipe in the bumper, right after the intercooler. But for now the sprayer does an amazing job at cooling it down.

Alternative air cooling solution (but much more difficult to manufacture).

I am using that setup on mine, didnt buy a Full race kit, and it works fine. Like you said I have a very minor kink but I've noticed no issues with it.

but once I actually drove the car with the FMIC, i agree. I don't have any noticeable lag compared to my last fail turbo. |

Im using a legacy/wrx style grimmspeed tmic. For the 6758 it hit 440 on e85 without issue. It will be a couple months before my 7163 goes in, but I plan to keep the tmic.

I would suggest going FMIC, if possible. I thought the Spearco TMIC would be able to handle it but it couldn't. Seeing as the top mount sits inches away from a 2000° turbo, it just can't shed the heat efficiently in that hot area.

I won't be doing that. The hassle isnt worth the benefits in my mind. My tuner hasnt yet said my tmic is holding me back and the 7163 is only 50hp better then the 6758. The grimmspeed is rated for upto 500hp and thats where I plan to stop.

Do you track your car at all?

Waddlz FMIC setup on his 7163 is a lot more impressive than I thought it would be, especially here at altitude (the graphs I posted earlier were of his car). I've been happy with the performance of my TMIC, however, I haven't tapped in to log temps. I do understand that it's not only on top of a hot engine, but doesn't get the best airflow either. As I have my car down now, I will be putting a turbo blanket on the hot side and putting a boost pressure switch in series on my intercooler sprayer. Both of those should help, however, when winter comes around, I am planning on getting Inconel shields made for my header and uppipe. Both are already ceramic coated, but I'd like to do better at retaining heat where it belongs. |

You can buy those in tons of different configurations. I know Raptor Superchargers out of Austrailia likes to use that type of cooler. I used them a lot in my supercharged jetskis. Water pressure is key - too much and they swell like a balloon.

I did some logs of my grimmspeed post intercooler temps and the things works pretty well. I just really don't like the idea of messing with piping all over my engine bay and I don't want to spend more on it. I'm not tracking right now. Maybe in the future i'll do a few auto x events but ill probably never to quarter mile. |

Went for a short drive tonight for the first time since install.
1) I have an oil leak already, and it's not at the supply OR drain line from what I can tell. 2) I have the high load actuator and it cracks exactly as the tech sheet says it will 19 psi and change with a 10mm preload. However, the one time I looked up at my boost gauge close to redline it was at 15 PSI. I need to check my log and see for sure. I did have a hose pop off on me so it could have been loose already. They supplied these clamps that barely fit around the turbo outlet. Took me for-ever to get that bastard on there. I like to buy them on the larger side so they are easy to put on. I mean, is that much more to supply the next size up? Or am I completely missing something. Those two issues a side and, I can tell this is going to be a blast to drive. Completely different than my FP Green. And, I was only out getting data for the VE table with 3* pulled on wastegate pressure. |

For the guys pushing this turbo 28psi + - what size injectors are you running? Pump gas, no E

My ID 1050s are at 80+ percent with a 55 base pressure. My pump runs out of juice and throws me lean on spool up.... This is on pump.
Kinda funny to adjust the ve table for more. Fuel and have the result be a mega rich dip at spool onset and a bit less lean spike at pt. In a round about way I just figured out how to manipulate the built in rich dip on spool. |

If anyone wants it I get it for cheap and can pass along the deal. Still wondering though, if 1050s would do it with the FP back down at base pressure of 43.5. Sounds like the next jump is 272 cams - and - if that's the case I plan to do so. |
